What Yeti

Featured Replies

Hi

I have decided to buy a second hand Yeti as I've always liked the car. What do you find to be the most reliable combination of engine & gearbox and why?

Hi Ricardo.  In my opinion AdBlu diesel if you do a high mileage, or cambelt petrol if you do a low mileage or lots of short runs.  AdBlu diesels do not have DPF/EGR problems related to "the fix" and cambelts tend to be more reliable than camchains.

AdBlu diesel and cambelt petrol models also have the updated and more reliable wiring looms in the doors.

While I've had no problems with either of my DSGs, the "wet" 6 speed DSG fitted to diesel models is considered more reliable than the "dry" 7 speed DSG fitted to petrol models.  And of course, manual transmissions are innately more reliable than automatics.

Always been more than happy with my 2.0 4x4 manual. Will miss it when it’s gone for sure.

Are they readily available in Canada Ricardo?

No, but it's me that I'm planning to come closer to Europe 😎. In Spain, to be more precise. My contract in Canada expires in three weeks.

Thank you for the input, guys. One more question: I've heard rumors that Diesel cars will be either banned in many European countries, or at least taxes will get higher. The soot is a very debated issue, for good reasons I'd say. I see daily modern Diesel trucks and cars in here that spew clouds of black smoke when floored.

Now I'm looking at this Yeti. Any opinions?

I've previously had a 1.2tsi petrol manual and recently got a 2.0tdi diesel 4x4 DSG. I would recommend either. If you're just going around town, pick petrol, but if you're planning on off road go diesel.

It will be a while until diesel is killed off,  but it seems to me that the uncertainty has meant the price of a diesel is a lot lower than a petrol.
