Octavia Mk2 01314 VAG Code

Recommended Posts

Good evening team, I'm reaching the end of my patience with trying to work out the issues with my 1.6 FSI MK2 Octavia 2008

I recently had the engine cut out on me with a camshaft/crankshaft sensor issue, however this appears resolves and now I am greeted with this 01314 ECM code.

Basically the car will crank but will not start. I've got this code in every category on my scanner and it keeps coming back after clearing. I've charged/changed battery - no luck. Checked fuses - no luck. I've checked the 100 relay in the engine bay - no luck, all working as expected.

I'm next thinking checking the other relays but I can not find any diagram of relay locations or what each relay is for.

Is anyone able to help?

Below is my vehicle scan results as of tonight...

Looks like nothing can communicate with the engine ECU. If the ECU has been out, I'd start by checking its connector.

If there are no clues there, get the wiring diagram and start by confirming the power, ground and CAN wiring to the ECU are good. If you haven't got a wiring diagram, you can get them from Skoda for a small fee: https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do

Good evening Langers,

Thank you for the reply.

The ECU has not been out yet - that is my next attempt. Take it out, give it a clean and return.

Thoughts that this is a relay problem as a lot of videos/posts of other vehicles detail this?

Assuming the ECU is powered from a relay then yes, a faulty one could cause issues.

Hard to confirm without a wiring diagram to see which, if any, would be the cause.

Any chance something hasn't been reconnected since the engine was out?

Afternoon team,

An update on what I've done and the results.

I got to the ECM and disconnected it. Cleaned the connectors and reattached - same codes appear after clearing. - I was not able to get into the ECM case - its comepletly glued shut and appears like nothing can get in/out.

I got under my dash into the other relay's. I tested them all - the same way I tested my 100 relay in my engine compartment fuse box. The only difference is when testing with a 12v battery, some of the relays seem to switch on and off a lot. I swapped some around and tried clearing the codes - they reappear. However  I have somehow managed to start the car a number of times now, however the engine cuts out after 15odd seconds of running...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Engine cutting out after 15 secs from starting was a symptom on the Mk1 of the immobiliser code not being recognised.

Typically the chip in the key fob is damaged and not recognised or the code reader coil around the ignition switch is faulty. The ECU allows the engine to start but only run for 15 seconds before stopped.

Do the key fobs work correctly or are you using the key blade to open the door?

May not be exactly the same cause in your case but may lead to exploring other possibilities, such as Can Bus wiring.

I think it could be a relay for the ECM but don't have a clue where that is or what number it is

From the wiring diagrams that is the power relay for the ECU

What relay is that, and where is it located? Unfortunately I don't have a diagram.

It's not the key i've tried both and get the same result.

It's odd, I can get the car started now and then, however it is now running for around 30seconds and then just cuts out...

Ah yes. I've fairly happy the ecu is getting power. After playing around with the relays under the dash I've got it started but only intermittently. I need to find out what those relays are and test connection between the ecu and its wires somehow...

  • 2 weeks later...

Evening gents, went to GermanyDSC_2840.thumb.JPG.e2814e1ebd991345d99a3d15d31e7ba9.JPG on the bike for a bit of a holiday and forgot all about it.

Gave it another go today, again managed to start but only runs for 30 seconds or so then cuts out.

The code is still there.

Attached is my fuse box, nothing of notice wrong ?

Cheers

Alex
