Front pads : pre-mature wear

Featured Replies

Hello,

Have a Karoq 1.6TDI SE Tech Dsg.

Recently I've been getting a rattle from the front - took it in to Skoda and the front pads are rattling because they are so worn.

Car has done 14000 miles, I know it's an automatic but I wouldn't have expected them to wear that quickly. It isn't "spiritly" driven before anyone says it's based on the driver and roads.

My last car (Polo GTI) certainly was driven with spirit and the brakes lasted the full 35000 miles that I had it.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Nope at the first service (19.5K) it was reported that my brake pads were less than half worn. I'm expecting at least 35K miles from them.

Looks like something wrong. Not good!

Do you also suffer from jerky drive off? Look into other post related to DSG issue (also jerky drive off). If autohold / hill assist is malfunctioning, pads may wear too quickly. There is vcds / OBD11 tweak to adjust autohold/ hill assist, just look around.

& if the car has been going good then brake pads are a consumable and it will be a change if the discs are not wrecked / corroded faster than pads need changing.

Fit nice not OEM ones and see how they last.

To be fair when I pull off it isn't smooth, quite granny actually. I'll look into it. Thanks

Just switch the autohold gizmo off, it's not something a competent driver can't live without........the hill hold device will still do its stuff on any hill starts....makes for a much smoother drive all round.

My left brake caliper if you bang the wheel it rattles like its not adjusting i have to press the brake hard to adjust about 500 miles or so dealer service said its fine just annoying when you go over bumps

Take apart, clean all the parts and regrease it.

I do all of mine once a year.

Thanks AG Falco

Mine was new in June 2016.

Removed all the brakes and cleaned/greased them in October 2016 at 4 months old.

They wanted doing and I have done them every year since.

It is not uncommon for the pads to stick on the carriers if they are not done.

It is beneficial to me as I keep my cars a long time.

Thanks AG Falco

Mine at 37,500 miles and 38 months old.

Front brake pads at 10 mm and rear pads at 8mm, with all brakes stripped, cleaned and regreased.

All disk faces are clean, flat and have no rust spots/patches high points. All are original brake parts.

Thanks AG Falco
