I've fitted the Frecious version of the Mann pollen filter to both our cars, in the case of my car, just because we use that car for longer journeys, and in the case of my wife's 2015 Polo that has auto AC,  her VW dealership workshop replaced the original carbon coated one for a basic one probably as that car was bought with a 3 year service plan, so cheapest options work best for the workshop! Again these filters tend to be bought at a "good" time pricewise from ECP.

Edit:- maybe something to consider when it comes to next "change time". From the colour of your old one, I'd think that is was carbon coated, the p/n on the end would confirm/disprove that.

this is what it said on my old filter

The non-carbon one has a different part number, namely 6Q0820367B.

so the one you linked is definitely a carbon one?

Yes.

Part number alone tells you that.

Plus the description says:

Part Number:
6Q0819653B
Description:

POLLEN FILTER INSERT WITH ODOUR AND HARMFUL SUBSTANCE FILTERING

just like it says here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2008-608/8/820-820010/ (item 25, middle one of the three)

Looks like there's even a third variant, with part number starting JZW. Never knew that.

how often do you change them?

Every year or so roughly. I remove them and vacuum them clean of leaf debris every few months in between, when I remember.

that is a good idea, i can tell most people here have abit of an ocd when it comes to their cars, am i right? :D

Go on, aim for the Frecious version from ECP when there is a good deal running, maybe now, or Black Friday events!

Now there are 3 levels of pollen filter from Mann, basic filer, then carbon coated filter, then Frecious, I tend to leave them in for at least 2 years - I bought a new Frecious one for wife's Polo's year 4 service, but in the end I just removed the previous Fercious one and hoovered it out and stuck it back in for now, probably replace it next year.

By the way, VW at least only change them every other year, as per their own servicing requirements, though in extremely dusty environments replacing sooner is advised.

Edit:- I'm guessing that the highest priced Mann pollen is the Frecious Plus version "only" £14 with MID60 discount right now.

The carbon layer is to absorb smells coming into the car and it won't do that for long. Not something I bother with, I quite like driving with the windows down weather permitting. If I lived in a city, got stuck in traffic a lot or drove near sewage works I might well fit a carbon filter. My previous post indicates that not all odours originate outside the vehicle. At least I can claim the smell is coming from outside ...

Yes there are two filters basic and charcoal coating, clears more crap coming in, re air con cleaners all pretty much the same run engine, put aircon on full and set to recurculate. Put can ester on newspaper in rear foot well set of shut doors leave for ten mins, open car turn off let car air. Job done,

What that man said. Have done this in the past a couple of times just like Pirate76 described.

i found it straight away on ebay

One thing to remember, your original filter might have been the type that had a plastic holder fitted to it, ie the new filter comes without a holder/frame so you transfer the plastic holder/frame to the new bare filter, or it might be the later one where VW Group dispensed with the plastic holder/frame - these filters still fit - maybe not quite as easy to remove and fit without the plastic holder/frame, but that is progress.

I hope that you are comparing these prices with ECP's own online store prices and applying the "discount of the day" as sometimes they are cheaper than the other version of ECP, not always but worth checking.

yeah i replaced one few days ago and fitted the new flter to the frame.

i may order it few weeks yet as ive only just replaced it but thanks though. have bookmarked it.

...And carparts4less are often even cheaper, with free delivery so no need to collect.

Froggy8, the polystyrene cover you mentioned that snapped... I am fairly confident that the better heavy duty matting version is still available at dealers and is stronger, despite being able to actually bend out of shape. So if care is taken, it will last for quite a few removals. There is also a mat version of the right hand side under cover, albeit quite a bit thinner in places then the left one. They are purely for sound deadening and cosmetic purposes and often, as in my case, the dealers "Forget" To put them back. They do however, only cost around a fiver each.

In an earlier post regarding these, the part numbers were available but if you are interested in replacing yours, I can look it up for you.

yes please :)

ok, ill do a quick search for the old thread, otherwise it will be looking at mine in the car or my receipt. I placed the pair as I never had the right side cover from new as the duel controls fitter threw it away and the left pollen cover one was chucked during a service once! The video there, shows the matted version but on a left hand drive vehicle.

Don’t forget to take the pollen filter out when using an air con bomb.

Thats a good point, otherwise the filter will just filter out the cleaning stuff and it will be almost a waste of time!
