Superb 3T FL, has option for MQB steering wheel in 16, but buttons does not work ?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Superb 2014 3T, MY 2015. In my steering ecu (16), i have an option "Steering wheel from MQB platform installed".

Therefore i bought a steering wheel with dsg paddles from a superb 3V, installed it, but even though i have checked the above option, none of the buttons on the front of the steering wheel is working. BUT the dsg paddles actually works. Does i have to do something else, or is the buttons incompatible ?

My steering wheel controller: 5K0 953 569 AH , The buttons from the MQB platform superb : 3V0 919 719 B

I'm not aware of anyone getting MQB buttons working on a PQ35/46 properly 😕

At a guess, you need to replace the buttons. Happy to be corrected though!

Thanks for Your answer.

I just think its strange, that the steering wheel control module, has an option which literally sounds: " MQB series steering wheel installed".

Its just a tick off bit under long coding, just as alle the other customizable things. Strange huh ?

Assuming you're VCDS interface is genuine, you could ask on their forum?

There's always a chance the label file is wrong or the description isn't quite right 😕

It could have been added for development purposes and forgotten about. MQB was in development around the same time as the facelift for Superb 2, and it's pretty common to hack stuff onto existing models during early stages of development. It's possible the MQB steering wheel hardware was tested on PQ35/46 cars, requiring support in the control hardware to be provided. It's not too unusual for those sort of hacks to be forgotten about later.

Ah OK, that sucks :D.

But i guess you're right - i does not work.

I have bought this steering wheel from af superb 3V, with paddles. And i thought i could replace the 2 button units, with the ones from my old steering wheel.
BUT on my old button units, the 3 pin connector used for connecting the paddles in each side, are missing. Could i try to solder out the small 3 pin connectors from the button units from the 3V steering wheel, and solder them onto my old button units ? It looks like there is space for them on the PCB, but would it work ? I suggested this to a friend, at he said that i would probably need to flash the button units afterwards. But i have no idea how to flash the button units.

The easy solution is to buy a set of button units, that tits my 3T (5E0 919 719 G), but if i could save the eur. 140,- , i would gladly try to solder :D

I'm pretty sure there was a steering wheel with the paddle option for 3T as well, so finding one of those might be the most straightforward solution. It shouldn't be hard to find a buyer for the 3V wheel either.
