In the storage compartment under the steering wheel (to the right) there is a black lever/button which says 'ON' in white. Cant find anything in the owner guide...?

A/C stowage compartment?

it will hold a can and keep it cold (when the aircon is on).

thats right

it is the air con in a storage area, there should also be a little wheel thing in the glove box for the air con as well

it's a cooling compartment for a drinks can, on turns the airflow on in the little compartment. takes a standard coke size can iirc.

It pumps in air at the same temperature as that being pumped into the cabin, unlike the glove box which is always chilled. :D

Be very careful. It's in case your passenger pi$$es you off ...... Push .....

The glove box in ours has a dial to let chilled air in or not as the case may be

Yeah but when air is going in, it's always chilled air is what I was trying to say :P In the can cooler, opening the flap to allow air in lets in air at the temp being supplied to the cabin ;)

Chris

Chill out guys!!

Your supplying dealer should have explained that to you, during the handover process.

Who was your supplying dealer?

Cheers guys, I knew the glovebox could be cooled through the dial, but this is the first I have heard about a seperate A/C compartment.

Your supplying dealer should have explained that to you' date=' during the handover process.

I think that's a bit harsh to be fair. The dealer's responsibility is to explain all vital car features to the customer so that they can operate the vehicle without causing danger to themselves or other road users.

It would take them hours to go through all these little extra features and they aren't essential in order to operate the car.

This refrigerated compartment is mentioned in the manual which the majority of dealers do (and should) suggest you read.

The glove box is only supplied with air at outside temperature if the temp on the A/C is higher than the ambient outside temp. the only time either compartment is actually 'chilled' is if you have the A/C set to a low temp-

so if you have the A/C set to 25c the glove box will be getting outside air at it's ambient temp, not chilled, the other storage compartment will be getting air at 25c. if you have the A/C set at 17c or 'low' both compartments will get the chilled air at 17c

Either way it's total sh*te, anyone ever tried chilling a warm can of Coke? I tried and after 8 hours of driving and shivering me t*ts of with A/C on full blast and yes the chiller thing was all open correctly, it was still a bit warm - useless and complete waste of money.

The only time things stay actually cold is in the winter in the glove box, when you have the heater on, but open the glove box and it's icey cold cos the air its getting is -5c from outside!!

Ive messed about with that compartment below the steering wheel

and i cant even get the thing open:thumbdwn:

I was going to put a can of lager in it,as soon as the weather warms up

useless and complete waste of money.

Err its a cooler not a freezer.

You put something cold in there when its hot outside, if you have the a/c on it will stay cool and not heat up.

Waste of money? It doesnt cost anything. If you putting 10p pieces into it or something they are just behind the dash, remove the trim to get a refund.

sooooooo many replies about a little switch in 3 hrs,

find somthing else to do

wooops just added another one to the list

I thought It was a nitrous switch, but the woman who owned the car before had a Classic FM sticker on the window so it was unlikely:D

You'll be lucky ... it's only designed for 330ml cans.

What an utterly pointless thread this has become. Oh well. I suppose its amusing in a sleepy sort of way ZZZZZzzzzzZZZZzzzzz

Put your thumb in the hole and push down.

First thing I did when I bought my Fabia as I love the little thing.

All I need now is a Skoda pen.

I didn't say it would freeze anything, and the whole point of a 'cooler' is to make something (and nows the shocker) 'cooler' than it was before

As for the waste of money, well perhaps Skodas would still be good value if they didn't spend time and money on pointlessly engineering can coolers that dont work into cars?

Now, i'm off to find all those 10p's out of the Coin slot in me Superb:rolleyes:

I manage to complete a thorough handover in 15 minutes or so, in which I explain what the little compartment is. Perhaps the topic creator bought his car through a broker or maybe from an internet company and therefore doesn't get any of the features/support you would get from a dealer.

It was an internet company indeed. But I did get a free CD Changer, so im not complaining!
