Your opinion on a YETI EXTREME Edition 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi

I would like to know your honest opinion about a Yeti I spotted for sale at 8990 Euro. See LINK

It is a 2010 Extreme Edition, 2.0 TDI 140 HP, 4x4, 189,000 km (?!), one owner, no damage, It has all the bells and whistles for a Yeti. Is the price right? Any possible hidden problems given its age IF the mileage is true?

For me for a nine year old car with that mileage the price is way too high.

That’s the EA189 engine?.

Too much useless bling.
Sunroof; potential leaks.

Something to think about - your in Canada... the car is in Romania.... I assume that you live somewhere in Europe and using VPN or Server in Canada?

Used prices in UK are very different to USA / Canada... and also slightly different to Europe.... so as far as what its worth we are not the ones to ask.. it all depends on supply and demand in your region.

But my 2 year old 2.0 TDI 4x4 Yeti SEL DSG  with 20K miles with nearly every extra is worth about £13,000 in UK at dealer...  cost new was £29,000....

So assuming similar pricing - its EXPENSIVE... but really don't know your market.

Does it come with full history..

For me mileage is too high... especially at that price...

A 9 year old car - with 90,000 miles in UK would be worth maybe £5000 to £6000 - depending on model..  - so 2/3 the money and 3/4 mileage..

So do not think its a GOOD buy..

You mean if you would want to buy a 2 year old used one from the dealer?

Or as a buy back?

I'm trying to figure out the price depreciation for a Yeti that otherwise is a very reliable car.

My car is on PCH - 3 Years - so due to go back in 11 months time

in July - I spoke with Dealer about swapping to Kodiaq

He got a preferential settlement figure from VW finance who wanted £14163 - for a 22 month old car.

He said he would buy it from me for £13,600 - meaning I just had to pay £563 to walk away from PCH early... against the 65% of the remaining 14 payments from ending PCH officially (over £3000)

So 3 months ago - with 18,000 miles dealer was looking to buy it from me for £13,600.... hence my £13,000 figure 3 months later..

@RicardoM

Is it Romania you are intending buying one in or any European Country, and is it to be a left hand drive Yeti?

Can't help with markets in Romania but here's what Parkers say about values for a car of that description in the UK:

Typical used prices
        Guide*
    Franchised Dealer:     £5,590
    Independent Dealer:     £4,965
    Private Good:     £4,335
    Private Poor:     £3,395
    Part Exchange:     £3,660
    Original Price:     £22,485

Prices based on 100,000 miles and no fitted extras. Mileage & options typically affect prices by up to 30%

Does not include any allowance for added extras.

Nearly 9k euros? The funny thing is if it was being traded in you'd be told it was worth less than half that. I can't believe even a hard faced dealer would have the nerve to put a price tag like that on a high mileage 9 year old Skoda. It looks nice enough but I would have guessed £4k if asked.

If you are looking at cars for sale in the UK you might notice Dealers / Traders with cars with ridiculous asking prices.

Reason can be the car is in Stock, owned by the business but the Dealer / Trader might not be in a hurry to sell as it is their daily drive / part of their collection so price it high, but if someone is stupid enough to want to buy it at the price they might well sell it.

I'm surprised at all the "experts" at buying and selling cars in a foreign country and with country specific trading environments.

OP ... best to ask someone that resides in Romania and is interested in the car market, I cant really see the relevance of UK pricing to Romanian car sales ... useful in the UK yes ... elsewhere I'm not too sure.

Just some thoughts.

@RicardoM I thought you were moving to Spain so wouldn't it be better to look there?

Totally agree, there is no comparison, for me in France the price would be relevant as its a LHD and priced in Euros, it would be snapped up in 30 seconds here at that price and mileage.

100K miles is not particularly  high for a 9 year old vehicle, dont they reckon on 20K miles for the first 3 years then 15K thereafter?

I bought mine in the UK but only because it was an insurance write off, the steering wheel is on the wrong side but the prices after repairs is 1/3 of what I would pay here, biggest difference is that I could only find about 8 vehicles for sale of all ages across the whole of France and most of those were from dealerships, hundreds available privately in the UK.

I will move but cars from Spain are far worse maintained than German ones. The one I am interested in is in mint condition because it is imported from Germany.

Buying a car in Romania, when moving to Spain? That's a _really_ long drive just to fetch a 9 year old used car. Hardly worth it if you ask me.

@RicardoM

It is a bit of a generalisation about Spain and the maintenance of Yeti's.

I suspect there might well be cherised and well maintained cars about someplace, maybe even for sale as UK migrants (not ex pats) return and need to get shot of their vehicle.

The weather would also have been more favourable to the car than in Romania!

Based on your advice and some last minute thoughts about Diesel engines' future and the suspect low mileage, I decided to look for a newer Yeti with lower mileage and similar equipment. Thank you all for replies.

Confused, is the OP in the UK, Romania, Spain or Canada!?

Now it shows Spain. Which is nice. But then so is Romania or Canada.

Britain is as well.

Ricardo is now in Spain.
