Radar mounted but not in options list

Featured Replies

Hi everybody!

I'm happy to be joining the forum, having bought a new Octavia just a couple of days back.

I have the "Style" standard equipment model, with options such as kessy, led lighting, smartlink, front/back parking sensors and few others which do not have any connection with the assistance packages offered by Skoda for this type of car. So no acc, no front assist, lane keep assist and so on.

I wanted to change the silver front grille with the RS model, which is all black, but the dealer asked for three times the price of the piece itself for the workmanship fee, due to the fact that they have to recalibrate the radar mounted in the front bumper. When I said I do not have any collision assistance or acc on my car they said that based on the VIN no. they do see my car to have such a radar mounted.

My question is, are you aware of such cases, where a piece of hardware can/could be installed but kept inactivated? I do have a small sign on the right part of the steering wheel, above the "view" one, but whenever I press it it says "Assistance menu unavailable".

How could I find more about this, the dealer was reluctant to share more information about it.

Thank you,

V.

If there are no assistance menus showing you do not have a radar. Additionally the radar wouldn’t move in any case and calibration would not be required. Smash the old chrome one off yourself and clip the black one in place without taking the bumper off. Easy as that :)

The new cars are fitted with RADAR for safety. You may not have the front assist feature, but you can still have the sensor. I have this on mine.

Hi! Thanks for your reply! But where is the safety in having something that does not work? I don't mind not having it, since I didn't buy it in the first place, but because the service says it's there I'm thinking whether there is something I can use it for.

Sasha, I appreciate the hands on approach :) but the car is a few days old, I'm stressed even about taking it for a washing not to mention forcing the silver plastic out :)))

So the grille itself is 50€ and they're charging 150€ for fitting the piece on the car...

I know some options can be activated/unlocked through the car's software but I don't know whether the radar functionality is one of those.

Either way though as the radar is going back in the exact same mounting location there is no need for calibration, that’s just a waste of your money especially if it’s installed and not activated.

Okay just to be clear. I don't know if there is a difference to the cars supplied in Romania and the UK.

But on mine which is a MY20 Octavia SE-L I do not have adaptive cruise control or any of those features, but I do have "Front Assist (ambient traffic monitor sys.)" as explained in the manual. The system warns you and can automatically brake if it detects a front collision is imminent. I get the warning as a false alarm sometimes and I have to admit it has gone off in some real situations where I perhaps wasn't paying as much attention to what's going on in front as I should have been. You get an audible beep and the display shows a big symbol in red that looks like car shaking all over (out of fear, I guess).

In your "infotainment" system touch the function surface (cogs) -> Driver assistance there you can change the settings for the distance and you can deactivate it (temporarily).
