Should I be able to enable anything

Featured Replies

Hi all, this is my first post on here so please be gentle.

Recently bought a 2016 Octavia VRs 230bhp manual hatch.

Took it today to a local VW/Skoda specialist in Nottingham as I enquired about getting my car looked at to see what I could enable feature wise as I looked around on various sites and most seemed to suggest you can enable stuff.

Turns out a lot of the stuff can be enabled but my car just gives errors codes for all of it.

Enabled corning fogs, errors - something about calibration?

Enabled traffic sign recognition - errors

enabled auto high beams - errors

enabled passenger mirror dimming - errors

there were a few more that we played with but essentially we reverted everything we changed because everything we tried produced errors.

Just wondering if we missed a trick?

I read if you've got lane assist (which my car has) you can have high beam assist because it runs off the camera in the windscreen?

Is it all locked down due to missing hardware/sensors?

Thanks

Cars with lane assist should support high beam assist and traffic sign recognition.

Might be worth posting an autoscan from VCDS as coding can change depending on model year etc.

Can't do that I'm afraid.

Can was scanned at local garage

Do you know where I can get one and how much they are?

Can you recommend anywhere (apart from Skoda main dealer who I assume will charge an absolute fortune to enable these features???) I can take it to get it enabled properly?

There are a couple of threads that might help you find a local member with VCDS:

Most will probably do an autoscan for a few beer tokens or even free. It will confirm exactly how your car is configured and which modules you have :)

They should also be able to follow the relevant guides to enable the features for you: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/299426-octavia-iii-vcds-adaptations-tried-and-tested/

Brill cheers 👍

Plus check you are using the correct instructions as things changed in 2016 and again in 2018.

Problems solved.

Many many thanks to @trundlenut for his patience and assistance £20 well spent

We managed to enable Auto high beam assist (which works really well with the speed to engage set to 20km/ph)

Cornering fogs

Traffic sign recognition

I do think its really silly of Skoda to leave these features disabled out of the factory. I know they are not the only firm doing this but I reckon they would have charged quite a bit to enable these things even if they had the ability to do so.

Thanks.

Most, if not all of the Items you have had enabled are paid options from the factory,

Thats why they arn't standard, surprisingly people actually order these Items

That is absolutely bonkers...

Maybe I'm spoilt, I've just come from owning a 2018 Honda Civic sport which had all these things as standard!

The Honda had terrible build quality though!

Much prefer my VRS!
