Which year did heated windscreens start on the Yeti?

I optioned the heated screened on my 2012 se. It wasn't worth it, tbh I found the air-con de-mist setting for the windscreen was very nearly as quick (away up here in Caithness, we get some good frosts in the winter and I found with it I was having to use a scraper and deicer anyway so whats the point of having a heated screen).

Also +1 on it being a distraction in certain like conditions.

Hmm, that does have me thinking. I remember having an old Mondeo and the windscreen had what looked like tiny hexagons all over it, I had assumed things had moved on significantly though. From reading this and other comments, I think I need to stop holding that one feature in such high regard.

  • Thanks all, I'll go with the button check as that seems to be the simplest way to find out! Really appreciate you coming back so quickly.

Couldn't agree more

Had to scrape the window this morning near Leeds. First frost of the day inter and a bit early?

Heating element had melted the frost on the other side by the time I had scraped the drivers side clear. And misting gon before getting back in to drive away. Much better than previous two yetis without this. I had been missing this feature since moving away from  Fords as my company car about 2003

Oof that's a sobering thought.

Our Volvo has a heated screen - it clears frost and misting very quickly and doesn't need the engine to warm up to do it.  Whilst you are clearing the side widows the front is done and just needs a flick of the wipers.  It also has a heated steering wheel, which is very welcome!

Another big fan of the heated windscreen, the desire to have it forced us down the factory order route on our Kodiaq.

One point of note, the design has changed on the latter models, there are no more lines in the glass. Instead a conductive sheet material is embedded in the glass so is invisible.

The only clue is when you look at the screen from the outside under certain light conditions you can see a strange yellow / green haze to the glass.

It also has the added bonus of being reflective, helping to keep the car cool in the summer.

£330 well spent in my opinion.

Thanks man, when you say latter models, which year are you going from?

Sorry, I meant latter Skoda models (Karoq, Kodiaq, MkIII Superb etc.), not latter Yeti models, I'm pretty sure all model years of the Yeti utilised the older heated screen design.

Correct!  My Yeti Drive is the runout model and has the older heated screen design.

I'll be interested to see how well my 2020my kodiaq tsi defrosts in winter, so far engine temp comes up very quickly, even just idling, with warm air coming to the cabin in very short order so in theory at least mine should defrost quicker than my old clog iron powered Grand Picasso and Yeti. I have no heated screen this time around as there was no way to have a demonstration of the newer type of heated screen for me to actually see for myself if they are any better in the typical conditions I would be using it. So time will tell.

The only time I notice the elements in the screen are when it produces rainbow fringes in very strong sunlight directly ahead. 99.9% of the time I don’t notice it.

the technology has improved fro what was on my Fords 15 years ago where the wires were very noticeable

At least the Ford heated screens worked in a respectable time, even in hard frosts (old Honda crv used to work well also, again they were the older quite visible honeycomb type).

My old Yeti screen used to take upto 10 mins (those ford/Honda ones in very similar conditions would clear in 2 or 3 minutes) to clear if I didn't scrape and deice first, which by that stage I would have warm air coming through the vents anyway. So specifically in reference to Yeti heated screens (or at the very least based on the one I owned), I wouldn't say they are worth holding out for as per the OP.

My 2017 Yeti clears the windscreen in 2-4 minutes depending on how cold it is, and in North Yorkshire it can get very cold.

Anyone else have an earlier model yeti with heated screen? Sounds like the later models performed better than older ones. Mine was a 2012.

Can't see a problem - Jan 2012 car.

By the time the engine has settled down, oil circulated, CC adjusted to suit the conditions etc, the screen is starting to defrost. I'm not an emergency vehicle, so I can afford a few seconds until the ice softens and the wipers can clear away.

Waiting for something like this can be deceptive - seconds can feel like an eternity, and conditions can vary over the country enormously - so a definite time to clear is meaningless (bit like fuel consumption - different driving habits can affect fuel consumption greatly)

How do you set the CC to the conditions before moving off?

Well, errm - see what the exterior temperature is, set the cabin temp fairly low, select re-circ and press the AC button!! Don't want to rob the engine of any significant heat while warming up in the first few miles. When both oil and coolant temp are up, raise cabin temperature to 21*C, turn off re-circ, and press auto. Don't think I can tell you anymore.

Aa,  set the heating before setting off when frosty not cruise control.

Aha - good spot - sorry about that, but you knew what I meant.

Not with the frosts we get here in York.

At 7am, it's still dark and well below freezing.

It takes at least a couple of minutes for the frost to begin to melt, and that's at the base of the screen only. This was the same on both our MkII Octavia's. MkIII Octavia and MkII Superb.

The heated screen on our Kodiaq takes less than a minute to fully clear the whole screen. Given the huge amount of options available on cars these day the heated screen was £300 well spent.

Me too. Love it.

If we knew what you meant I would not have asked, you're not my wife 😃

To add to the, "I'm a heated screen fan". I have had them on my last 2 cars and would now, never be without. Anyone who thinks you can do without should try living in Washington, Tyne and Wear near the river. Sometimes the frost is too thick to scrape but, the heated windscreen takes it all in its stride.

I've seen it cold enough up here to refreeze the de-icer fluid.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have this on my 2012 mod. Skoda Yeti 2,0TDI AllDrive. TK From Norway
