Which year did heated windscreens start on the Yeti?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Firstly, apologies, I'm a complete layman and about to buy my first Yeti. I'm looking at 2nd hand models, but one of the features that I'd really like to ensure is included is the heated windscreen, and I can't find any steer on which models actually include it. I can see that some of the 2014 onward models have this, but am I to assume that anything prior to that point didn't include the feature? I'm assuming that the Elegance model was the top spec prior to that point?

Thanks in advance for any help on this one!

  • I have a heated windscreen on my 2017 SE-L and can't understand the negative posts about it. On frosty mornings it clears the screen perfectly and very quickly, far better than any spray and much more

  • Thanks all, I'll go with the button check as that seems to be the simplest way to find out! Really appreciate you coming back so quickly.

Ah ok, that's really helpful, thanks homie.

The heated windscreen was listed in the 2011 brochure (the earliest I have to hand) as a factory-fit option on the SE and above.  I doesn't seem to have been a standard fitment on any of the models in that year.

As Eddie-NL says, the easiest way to check is to look for the button.

Its fitted as standard to L&K models, and optional on all the others as far as I know. (In the UK anyway...)

I think it was less than 1 in 20 had it fitted when I had anything to do with Skoda a few years ago. Best advice is the one about the L&k I think. Before I got my cheap 1.2 I definitely came across a few 62 and 63 plate L&k s with a hfs.

Thanks buddy, much appreciated. I'm trawling Autotrader now, but it seems like such a rare feature! Your 1 in 20 comment is certainly ringing true!

Looks like it, although there's no guarantee it'll be working!

It's being sold by a random, non-Skoda specialist second hand car dealer.  They probably don't even know what the button is for - assuming they've even noticed it.  The item specifics on the eBay listing could well be the standard ones that eBay provides when you enter the vehicle make & model.

The Honda dealer that sold me my 67 plate SE thought it had satnav solely on the basis of there being a VAG satnav update SD card sculling around in the glove compartment (I reckon it had been left there in error, either by the previous owner or another employee). But there was no shark fin antenna for the GPS, and there was a bog standard Bolero in the console.  (The absence of sat nav was actually neither here nor there to me since I much prefer to use Google navigation via Smartlink).

@Beardtown Welcome to the forum.

When you find a car with a heated screen be sure it actually heats (works), and is not a replacement screen that is the wrong one.

They are so few and far between, I'm trying to weigh up whether or not it's such a dealbreaker for me. I'm sure I could get better spec for the money ( looking to spend around £6k) if I wasn't fixed on certain features.

Rarer than hens teeth! For your £6k I would decide the type of engine you want - diesel or petrol - then list your ‘likes' in order of preference and work from there. Condition, regular servicing and how it drives are probably the best guide to a good buy.

Thank you, I'm currently doing just that. I think if I focus on the engine size etc. first at least I have a set of parameters to work with and can wait for one with the additional features I'd like to come along. I'm in no immediate hurry, just want it in place before the cold sets in, but then again I suppose everyone else will be thinking the same thing as soon as we get the first spot of serious rain or frost !

@Beardtown

Where are you and how far will you travel for the right car.

What are the basics of what you want engine and gearbox wise?

I'm in Norfolk, but don't mind travelling if the right thing pops up. I hadn't landed on the exect spec, but economy plays a part as this will be my main commuting vehicle ( 100+ miles a day). I also want to be comfortable, as have a hip condition which is agony sitting in cheaper seats every day, so understood that the Elegance range has a stronger lean towards that side of things. I'm looking for a manual transmission, but power wise, if I start to compromise on the economy by going above 1.6 then I'm happy for that to be the top end. I truly am a complete layman, so any steers or considerations, please do share , however basic you think they should be!

You might strike lucky. When I bought my Audi Allroad from Evans Halshaw they missed mentioning £5k of options in their advert. I found a DAB TV a week after I bought it...

Some nice features on that Yeti, xenon headlights, heated leather seats, heated windscreen, panoramic sunroof...

Xenons and heated seats were standard on the Elegance.

For what it is worth when I bought my Yeti (2013) I specified the heated windscreen. I've seldom used it as the aircon clears the screen in a few seconds if it is condensation and a squirt of deicer clears any ice but in fairness I am on the South Coast. What I have noticed, and this may be more about the shape of the car than the type of screen, is I have had more stone chips on the windscreen in the Yeti (and I'm now on the second one)  than any other car I've owned. The other thing is the element can be distracting under some lighting conditions.

Each to their own but I'd never bother with a heated windscreen again. (But I do wish I'd gone with the electric seat option - I do miss that from the Volvo).

So you have a heated screen and spend time and money on spraying de-icer? That's crazy. 🤔

I optioned the heated screened on my 2012 se. It wasn't worth it, tbh I found the air-con de-mist setting for the windscreen was very nearly as quick (away up here in Caithness, we get some good frosts in the winter and I found with it I was having to use a scraper and deicer anyway so whats the point of having a heated screen).

Also +1 on it being a distraction in certain like conditions.
