Rear quarter panels not de-frosting?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've a mkiii Octy estate SE 2.0 TDI, DSG. I might be barking up the wrong tree but are the rear quarter panels heated? They have the heat track/band like the rear window but don't defrost the glass like the rear window does?

If anyone can shed some light (or heat!) on this I'd be grateful.

Cheers,

Mark

Not heat bands mate think its the ariels for your radio .

Thanks for the outrageously fast reply Mickvrs220!😂

Ah, I thought they might be, that almost explains why the reception on DAB is pants too....

Thanks again

Mark

I thought they were alarm sensors to detect broken glass. Isn’t the radio aerial on the roof

I think you're right, mine has a 'sharks fin' aerial to the rear of the vehicle..

They are aerials.

DAB has two, for better signal.

@SC03OTT Thanks!👍

The wires are only on the estates & hatches have the same radio so I’m sticking with alarm sensors for the larger window

S models with no Sat Nav still have shark fin.

the top elements in the rear window of the hatch are for the radio. They’re not heating elements.

Nor are they connected to the alarm.

@silver1011 Thanks for this info, it makes sense as my 'utterly confusing ICE model' has FM/MW/LW radio as well as DAB/Satnav and SD card media (slot 1)..

Sorry for the incorrect information

Definatly ariels in your your glass ,not alarm sensors thats covered by ultrasonics for interior ,fin on roof is gps locator so sat nav knows where you are .

ha ha ha...   Don't worry, most comments open a can of worms

As above - I'm sure the two aerials is for a system called Diversity - it improves the reception.  But the alarm theory is a non-starter - why just the rear quarters because no other windows are 'alarmed'? And if someone did break a window, well that's why the car has an interior alarm.

Sorry for the alarm wild goose chase (not a great start to my Briskoda existence, I’ve not even got my car yet!!!)

It's a friendly enough place, we're all here to learn 👍

Also true for the rest of Europe. The standard radio antenna (on the limo/hatch, at least) is placed in the rear windshield. The topmost 2-3 rows of wire, the width of the third stop light, are not window heater/defroster but an antenna.
