New Octavia 2020 vRS?

I think this spec and price looks great - very tempted.  

 

I presume the First Editions, including this VRS, are supplemented with extras at 'no cost' to drum up business and that future versions will not have these extras?

 

I'll wait for a manual which should drop the price by another £1,500.  Together with a decent PCP interest rate, deposit contribution and 10% discount I could change for this.

 

No rear wiper as standard on an estate? - Hope not.

The rear wiper should be a no cost option like the Superb. If the customer doesn't remember to ask for it this saves Skoda manufacturing costs. Currently £2,000 off on PCP orders placed before 4th Jan 2021 and delivered before 31st Mar 2021.

The rear wiper is FOC.....but there are those peeps that don't like the look of a rear wiper on a saloon / fastback / whatever it's called.

If can't afford / don't want to borrow money, (but can afford to purchase outright, not so unusual for us senior citizens...) can you start with a PCP, to get the £2K discount & then settle the account with cash?

Simple answer yes take discount and settle without any charges within 14 days after collection finance agreement signed.

'Tis a pity that they still use fugly wheels, that seem to be kerb magnets....

Also not keen on the new DSG selector, I use the hold feature on my cars quite a lot, & that's no going to be possible anymore.

 

I'll wait for a test drive drive before raiding the piggy bank, but there's a pre-reg (70 plate) Arteon R-line for sale @ £33K, 4Wd, 272ps, DCC, etc.

Gonna be that guy as well and point out that wheels are not kerb magnets. Drivers are. 

I won't be having one. Looking at the new Jaguar XE 2021 edition, with loads of gizmos and it comes in at a similar price to the RS.

 

Has a traditional gear lever (well similar to BMW), although it still has an electronic parking brake. Looks much nicer.

Which exact trim/spec are you looking at ? They do look good.

Not bad, just under 30k for the 250bhp petrol and all the options included, it's amazing value. Hows leasing costs on Jags?

Hope the Jag if you take the plunge is more reliable than your troublesome Octavia.

So do I. But so far (touchwood) apart from 1 very hot day, it has performed flawlessly since a firmware update. 

 

Which is something that I asked Garlands to do in the first place. 🙄

VRS IV orders are being taken from 3rd November. So basically a week after the TSI 245 orders begin. First deliveries expected Jan 2021. Still no word on pricing yet for the hybrid.

The problem with the IV vRS (245BHP) and in fact the whole VAG hybrid 245BHP line up is once the battery is empty in 20 minutes you're left with an rather expensive 150BHP 1.5L TSI engine. What's the point of it? If you want a performance car , the performance has to be there all the time. If you want to save and poodle along on battery might as well buy an electric car.

Would never buy this PHEV, either the full TSI245 or an electric car

I don't think that's how it's supposed to work. The battery won't be empty in 20 minutes unless you only drive on the electric motor, in which case you only get 107bhp. In hybrid mode it will last far longer than 20 minutes. The hybrid vRS will be more efficient than the petrol vRS and will have a longer range than any similarly priced full electric car.

Well, I've seen a few reviews online that show it, whether it's really true I don't know.

 

I did look online myself but couldn't find anything conclusive. But what I do know for sure is that the hybrid will give a longer range than a fully electric car, and will also give more mpg than the petrol vRS. It will also give lower emissions and therefore both company and private drivers will pay less tax. 

 

Of course it's a compromise, so there are downsides. The main ones being the extra weight and the higher ride height. But it will still have appeal to some people, perhaps those that previously had a diesel vRS. 🤷‍♂️

It makes sense for some. I'm still on the fence.

 

BIK will be generous compared to the TSI and potentially the diesel for those wanting one as a company car.

 

Those who only ever cover short trips and can charge at work or home may end up with only ever really using the electric side and cheaper running costs.

 

It's not gonna be for everyone, but for some it will make sense. Pricing will play a huge part in whether it works in reality as a genuine alternative for those use cases.

Autogefuhl did an English speaking video of the Cupra hybrid. I don't have the link to hand unfortunately.

The rear of the new vRS estate looks fantastic :biggrin:

But the front end looks awful IMHO. Will be hanging on to my pre face-lift 2016 combi until there is something else that catches my eye. (Cupra Leon maybe) 

Assuming the online configurator will be updated soon? I believe - and have seen - there are a few UK demos now at dealers.
