Any info from Skoda UK re. vRS powertrains yet?

Cheers,

DC.

Three choices all front wheel drive. 197bhp diesel, 242bhp petrol and 242bhp hybrid (1.4TSi petrol plus electric motor). Only 4WD confirmed so far is a 187bhp petrol but they may add the diesel later as before. Sadly no plan to offer a hot petrol with 4WD.

Typical bizarre Skoda UK "logic" IMHO.

Thanks shy, typical VW, not wanting any real competition from Skoda.... Maybe go for an L&K with DCC, 4WD & a stage 1 map, it should be able to keep-up with my ancient Superb & still fit into my garage.

Maybe VW interfering rather than Skoda UK logic? Will the new vRS be available with 4WD & a decent engine in other markets?

Auto Express reckon the new 328bhp Golf R will start from £39,000 so not much wiggle room for options or it goes over the tax break at £40,000 and then £455 per year road tax.

I'd also like a 300bhp petrol Awd version, but doesn't look like it's coming.  I need to decide whether I get a nearly new Golf R estate, or wait for the new 245bhp petrol VRS.  I prefer the interior and image of the new VRS, but the drive train in the Golf is much more appealing.

I think that the R estate is fun to drive, (when she lets me use it......), it's a decent estate car too but the rear leg-room is very lacking (for adults) when compared to a Mk. 3 Octy.  Build quality is a little bit better than the Mk.3 Octy but the Autogeful (?) review, mit Tomas, indicates that the interior quality is

good, just nake sure you buy a car with IRS rather than the torsion-bar rear suspension.

I like the R enough to buy myself a used hatchback, but I still prefer my old Superb for long journeys,  but since it's 8 years old I would like to replace it with a sensible sized estate or hatchback, such as the Mk. 4 Octy.

I don't really need the 4WD but now that I've experienced the R's ability to scoot without any drama, I'd want 245 ps on an Octy to have 4WD0.

If you could find a decent Mk. 7.5 R wagon, with DCC & 18" wheels, +  in a sombre colour (resale grey, perhaps) you'll have a very useful / fun to drive

Q car with a decent & easy to use interior.

The vRS is never going to get 300bhp+ and 4WD. None of its competitors do, Golf GTI, Focus ST, 308GTI.

Bigger power etc comes with the next segment up, Golf R, Focus RS etc.

There will be a 2.0 litre turbo petrol as before and a hybrid petrol with 1.4 litre engine plus electric motor and battery pack (hence a smaller 400 litre boot) giving an identical 242bhp both to have Vrs badging and launched simultaneously, probably early 2021 now in the UK.:)

Thanks for the info, 'tis a pity (to me) that the 4WD option is only going to be available on the diesel version. As a prospective buyer it's not logical, but I imagine that Skoda aren't allowed to offer a real alternative to the other VAG brands.

They've been offering a real alternatives to other VAG brands since VW aquired Skoda, why should it be any different now?  What alternative would there be to a 4wd vRS estate?

This 17” disc thing seems to be being reported again, like on the Kodiaq.  Where does it come from?

All the brake discs being quoted are way too big compared to my Superb 272 front just over 13" and rear just over 12".

I know, I don’t get it. I mean, how would you even get a 17” disc plus brake setup behind an 18” wheel?!?

The new Porsche Turbo 911 S has 420mm front and 390mm rear discs. That's approximately 14.5" front and 13.5" rear discs.

Golf R estate or Cupra Leon ST?

I'm looking for a replacement for my old Superb, that's a little bit smaller but with a 4WD petrol / DSG  powertrain & easier to park in my garage than a Superb 3 or the current Passat.

Doesn't have to be an estate, 'cos SWMBO still has her R wagon, but to needs to have enough space in the back for 2 normal-sized adults, which is why I think the Octy 4 vRS with AWD would be just the ticket........

Neither of them are vRS rivals. They rival each other, yes, but not the vRS.

Don't see your point, they're all MQB cars, sharing similar powertrains & suspension, the Octavia has more space for people & luggage from the B pillar back.

The SEAT & VW high-powered petrol estates have 4WD , which I would like to have in the new vRS. Annoyingly, Skoda has already made 4WD available in the Mk. 3 Octy, in the 190ps petrol + the diesel vRS estate. Why no petrol vRS 4WD, probably politics inside VAG rather than a lack of customers......

FWIW, low-mileage / nearly new 4WD Superb 272 / 280's seem to be very affordable, probably cheaper than a brand-new Mk 4 Octy vRS.....

I've been offered a '69 plate 950 mile facelift Superb Sportline Plus for £26,900 & if it could fit into my garage I'd be very tempted........

That 69 plate FL Superb if it is the 272 is much better than the Mk4 Octavia Vrs because my 2019 version had 283bhp when standard rather than the 268bhp Skoda claim and with 4WD none of those ponies are wasted and mine being the older model was only £23,840 with 4,900 miles direct from Skoda HQ.

Won't be having one, for two reasons.

1. It ugly as hell.

2. I've had enough of this junk heap.

Looking for a Cupra or Golf next time.

Can't say I blame you with all the issues you've had so far.:hi:
