Service information 1.8tsi

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I recently purchased a 1.8TSI 2011. After doing some initial research I asked the dealer to replace the cam chain etc for peace of mind.

I experienced the dreaded oil consumption issues (lesson learned more research next time round), however I have been very lucky with the indy dealer I purchased the car from. They initially replaced the PCV to try and solve the issue, as we can all guess this didnt work.

I have now received my car back after have the engine out, head work, pistons, rings, con rods, bearings, another cam chain etc etc (all at dealers expense). So far so good, I am hoping this issue is now fully sorted as my research would seem to support.

My question is, I will be doing most of the services myself, but I am struggling to find any decent comprehensive information on service schedule and parts.

Does anyone have any links to a workshop manual or a good comprehensive list of oil type and amount, filter, plugs part numbers?

Also importantly, do I stick to the 5w30 LL castrol or a thicker 10w40 as I have seen on some posts?

I have used the search tool on the site but didnt come up with anything from what I could tell.

Any pointers or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Andi

Very comprehensive service schedule information in the sticky thread at the top of this forum.( Link below.)

You are very fortunate with your dealer. Regardless of whether you choose to use 5w30LL or a vw 502.00 oil which are often 5w40, your engine will be much happier on a fixed time and distance schedule not exceeding 7000-9000 miles between oil filter changes.

I prefer using vw 502.00 oil.

As for parts, instructions etc. You need to deal with that as need arises. Most motor factor websites will do a part search based on vehicle reg, if you go to a skoda dealer or tps they will look up and supply the correct part. Quality after market catalogues will also provide aftermarket equivalent quality parts like Bosch, Mann et al....

Thanks for that.

I have looked in the sticky thread you have mentioned. Didnt see amount of oil required for service, I will have a look through again and doubt check.

I am very lucky indeed, have to say i really like the car and the engine feels strong and spritley. I was even provided with a breakdown of the work done to the engine and cost, for my own peace of mind after having researched about the required fix for the pip consumption issue.

I will have a look at 502.00 oil

Thanks for your reply.

The specification tables towards the back of the owners manual has quantities / volumes for things like oil.

Thanks again.

I have just located the engine details PDF which details the oils quantities. It's the first car I've owned I haven't been able to buy a Haynes manual for carrying out work. So just trying to source as much information as possible to help me when I need to do a service. Only got the car back on Monday so shouldn't have to do it for some time.

Much appreciated.

If you rate bosch parts for example (I do), attached is their after market catalogue specific to your car.  There is a fairly comprehensive range of service consumables, electrics, brake parts and sensors.

Similarly if you prefer Mann they have the same for filters, Lemforder for suspension, etc etc.

There is also this freebie workshop manual which is fairly useful.  Navigation is slightly difficult with the donation requests appearing all the time. And the cross reference page links never seem to work for me.

Excellent. Thanks for that. I'll have a browse of those files. Thankfully I have plenty of time before the car will require servicing. I'll browse the forum more to learn as much as possible.

Overall I love the car, just need a head unit upgrade so I can get the bluetooth phone connectivity working.
