If I buy this would I need any coding done? And is that good good price?https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173974178165

Whenever you fit a replacement infotainment main unit you need to have Component Protection removed and optional features re-enabled to match the spec of your car (both of which usually need an online connection), the coding and adaptation values checked/corrected to match your car.

could you recommend anyone near Milton Keynes? I'm happy to travel.

There aren't many people that can do all the above, best ask @SashaGrace to recommend someone (probably @pab567)

@System0fAClown you have Columbus MIB1. The questions are:

- do you want to move to Amundsen (e.g. lik ethe one you linked), Columbus MIB2 (both can work with your current screen or the screen you linked) or Columbus MIB2.5 (requires screen changed to 9.2" model number 5E0919606D)?

- do you have CANTON Sound System?

- do you plan to retrofit AID (Active Info Display aka Virtual cockpit) in the future?

sorry wrong thread 😞

Pawel has covered it all above, I have the MIB2.5 Columbus and it’s so worth it IMO, the Columbus is a really nice radio and the extra features of the MIB2.5 Columbus vs MIB2.5 Amundsen are worth it. This radio came from Pawel nearly a year ago to replace my retrofitted MIB2 Amundsen also prepared by Pawel and it’s been perfect, love it.

Another vote for the work done by Pawel. Also got a Columbus MIB2.5 and love it.

5E0919606D would be better as it doesn't seem to cost much more on top of what I'll already be paying.

Looks much sleeker with that display, are they a pain to fit?

So budget a couple of hundred for reprogramming.  £900 is a good deal all in I think for MIB2.5 columbus. @SashaGrace will be able to confirm.  I thought the usual figure for that setup is closer to £1200.

I messaged the guy who listed this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-OCTAVIA-3-COLUMBUS-MIB2-5-HEADUNIT-565035021A-DISPLAY-5E0919606D-DAB/233384495271?hash=item3656ccc8a7:g:e0QAAOSw5K5dnNvN&autorefresh=true

He said he can do the unit and remove the component protection for £695 I'll just have to wait a week for it to get to me as hes got to give it to someone else to do.

Question is if it is just CP removal or CP removal plus activations and what exactly activations are included...

Would be nice to have seen some photos with the display active. Some display units can have defective lines.

The one I bought does (but I knew that before buying)

This seller has a few different ones up for sale and he does state if they have lines, this one looks OK.

His reply.

If this is correct would i just need someone local that can do vsdc?

That doesn’t answer the question and is typical of many people who supply these units. ‘Everything’ usually just means nav and SmartLink rather than everything that is possible and I would want to see pictures of this. Also the coding to match your car is complex if you are new to it. Spend a little more and get a unit from Pawel. It will be 100% perfect and he is by far the most talented and transparent person in this field.

OK I'll pm him,

thanks for the advice everyone

All you have to do is encode the speakers in to the new unit?

Encode the speakers?

Any idea what that Ebay advert meant Sasha? I can see a different head unit needing to be paired to the car, but having to tell the head unit about speakers?   Sounds weird.

Could well be meaning that you need to set the right speaker set up for the car, for example if the car has the Canton sub.
