Loss of power & cruise control

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Earlier today my Octavia 1.9 4x4 experienced a couple of problems.

Whilst driving home I went to engage the cruise control however nothing happened, no light and no cruising. Also on this same journey I noticed a loss/poor power when overtaking a car and also accelerating away from a roundabout. Whilst accelerating from the roundabout I had my foot to the floor (once I realized the power issue) however it did not make any difference, the power that would be expected was not there.

Prior to this journey home I went to a jet wash about 12 mins away. I had cruise control on (which was working) and there was no issue with power. I also had a loaded bike carrier on the towbar. I got to the jet wash, blasted clean the car and bikes then headed home.

Since doing some googling I have checked the brake lights and they are working but other than that I cannot think of anything really to do. I had a thought that water could have got in somewhere with me jet washing the car but am not sure how that would effect c/c and power.

One thread/comment I read also pointed to a low battery which would not allow you to use nonvital issues like cruise control but I am not sure how this would effect the power issue. A fyi, I did comment to my wife during the week about the battery power whilst starting the car but that was after the car sat for a few days and starting it in the rain and 2c temperature. It was just a case of I felt that the car didn't have as big a power whilst starting that it usually does.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions for me?

Thank you

Just an update: After todays drive the cruise control was working and no problems with the power. I still have no idea what went wrong.

If you can scan the car for any possible faults might have been kept, surely would help in such situations.

Thank you I shall aim to do that sometime in the future.
