Yeti Replacement

Featured Replies

Started looking for a replacement for my Yeti SEL 1.2 Tsi DSG. Frankly I can see plenty of smallish SUV/Crossovers but so far nothing to match a Yeti, the Arona/Kamiq/T Cross seem to have lowish driving positions more like a tall hatchback than Yeti height. Has anyone tested/driven/own the Volvo XC40? A bit more expensive but I was shocked to find that by the time I had properly spec’d up a Kamiq I was approaching £30,000!!! So maybe the Volvo is achievable. Welcome the views of anyone who has driven the XC40.

Okay maybe I was too specific! Anyone experience of any other possible Yeti replacements?

Xc40 is very nice but also very costly when specced up.

Manufacturers pricing strategies have moved onwards and upwards along way since you bought your Yeti.

If you are looking for high spec in a small SUV and sub 30k price tags you may have to look out with the VAG group or any of the other premium euro brands such as Volvo...

Things like Ford ecosport, Vauxhall mokka, citroen c3 aircross/c4 cactus, Peugeot 2008/3008, Renault captur are all possibilities. I'll not go into specific pros/cons of any of these suggestions for fear of the argument fest that these sorts of discussions brings out in many of the contributers on briskoda. But suffice to say you are spoilt for choice in the small SUV market.

Also ignore list prices and on online configurators, hefty discounts are available across the board on all makes. Just have a look on the likes of carwow.

..as per my earlier topic, I am looking for a suitable replacement as well. Can't stretch to a Volvo, but have looked at an Arona, (current preferred), T-Roc, (Fewer about, low rent interior and lower specs), Kona, (not seen one yet), Stonic, (had a look at one the other day...lot of kit for the money), and Q2.

None seem to be quite as good as the Yeti, (The "square back" of the Yeti gives more space, as does the ability to remove all the rear seats). Most of the alternatives seem to have a "lower grade" interior, although the Stonic does not seem to be too bad but scores badly on "Which", (mainly because of low safety score I think). The top spec Stonic seems quite nice and has a good spec for about £21k. I have also had some quotes off carwow for a decent spec Arona for around £19k. Up to now the Arona seems about the best fit for me as I want small petrol and I do fancy an auto.

I have even thought about getting the latest 1.2 auto Yeti I can find. (I currently have a 1.4 4wd, but don't really need this now as no longer working). I have also played around with the Koniq, but for the spec I would want it's the wrong side of £25k for me. I did pop into a dealer to have a look at one and as you say, seems to be only slightly taller than a saloon.

So bottom line is, like you, I am still undecided. But at the mo. the Arona is at the top of my list but hoping for some more inspiration!

Would be interested to see how you get on...

Thanks - I need an autobox so that might limit my options. AS you say prices have moved on since I bought my Yeti so I guess I will check out some of the cars you mention then check Carwow for a good price. I bought my last car through them and everything went smoothly. Still hanker after the XC40 though!!!!

Hi

I had a First Edition XC40 for a short time and found it an exellent car - all the bells and whistles that you could whish for - you can even start it from your smart phone so that ic can warm up before you go out.

I had a few niggles one was the key battery went flat and left me stranded but luckily only a short distance from home - two I fitted a dash cam too near the rear view mirror and this affected the lane guidence

but that was easily solved - and three I found the rear collision very sensitive it kept braking as I was backing out of my drive onto a busy main road - but I would reccomend it to anyone a very safe and comfortable car.

The adaptive cruise control was amazing.

You might also consider a Ford Kuga as a cheaper replacement - I would suggest that you test them both.

This works for me (18 months)almost same drive height and interior size,2 wheel drive a joy to drive

It will be hard to get a better car than Yeti. Yet I suggest to drive test a Suzuki SX4 S-Cross 1.4 SPIRIT ALLGRIP.

High Seating, Sliding rear doors, choice of tailgates, loads of space,  choice of 5 or 7 seater and length of model,

the Peugeot Rifter, Citroen Berlingo or Vauxhall Combo Life.

The Vauxhall can be had with a 1.2 petrol turbo engine, 8 speed automatic, and as a £410 option the 'All Weather pack' that has the Intelligrip (Traction Assist) and All Season / All Weather Tyres.

There is no direct replacement, so depends if you need the height, the square boot, 4 wheel drive, or whatever

The Mokka-X (mentioned earlier) is apparently being withdrawn and has huge clearance discounts

Suzuki and Hyundai seem to be well spec'd

I suspect anything from VW group is going to be £24-32k if you want all the toys,

but of course, the more gadgets, the more there is to go wrong, which is always worth considering.

We had the same Yeti, and replaced it with a 1.5 DSG SE L Karoq. Its not much bigger and feels much the same, has removable/foldable rear seats etc. We are really pleased with it. Get a quote through carwow, never pay list price.

I too looked long and hard at the Combo Life as a potential replacement for my Yeti but as with you, I would not want to own one out of warranty.  I have still not forgiven Schitroen for the p.o.s. Berlingo I bought many years ago - or for the attitude of the dealer.

When do you expect to take delivery of your KISS Kamiq 1.0 DSG?  I would be very interested to hear your thoughts after a few months of ownership.

Cheers

@Robjon

Doh, Kamiq no more!

I had driven left hand drive Kamiq's at the launch then ordered a right hand drive that was delivered and never took it.

I would have needed to fit a flip throttle pedal to sit comfortably or trimmed the brake pedal and moved the throttle a bit to the left.

(having a left foot accelerator really does not suit me as i am used to being comfy using my left foot as cars come standard, i have never used anything but standard auto's as daily drivers.)

So i was going to have the Combo Life from Motability rather than buying the Kamiq or anything else.

All ready to order and then up came the New Vauxhall Corsa Electric and that is now on order instead as i already have a bigger diesel when needed for towing.

The salesman is at the Launch and his training this week on the New Corsa's, and my order is confirmed and i am getting one as soon as available after the Demos are at the dealers which is on the 12th of this month.

So a total change of mind as i wanted something fun to drive as i no longer have a Fabia and i think the Corsa will do the job.

Neat fit but the pedals suit me.

Heated seats, and pre heating and heated steering wheel.

KISS no more either.

There will supposedly be a Mokka Electric launched next year.

Possibly but realistically I have another year before making the swap - and there may be even more choices by then!
