briskoda amateur detailers, any of ?

Featured Replies

I am interested in having my car detailed, and I wondered if there are any briskoda members in West Yorkshire who do this ?

I appreciate there are forums that specialise in detailing, but I am not requiring in depth and confusing advice, (and having to buy very expensive waxes etc). I just want my car 'minting' up, so I can keep on top of it in the hopefully sunny weather that is just around the corner !

Thanks in advance, G...:)

You could worse than emailing Rich from Polished Bliss. (www.polishedbliss.co.uk)

I've been using him for car products since he opened the site, and recently sorted Black Magic's Fabia on here. Top bloke and really great advice (without have to spend £000s).

Drop him a line - it'll be SO much more satisifying knowing you've done it yourself

There's also some great guides on there - so you'll get the right products for the job, and advice on how to get the best out of them.

Thanks Steve.

What I really wanted is for someone to detail my car, with me in attendance, whilst I picked their brains as to which are the best products/methods etc.

I have visited their website and found it very informative, but it is a long way to travel.

basically I am a lazy git, with good intentions, and would be useless with a porter! I am far better at wasting a whole day away meesing about with my car, when I should be decorating, if you get my drift:O

Point taken - an idea might be to get a few people together locally, like was done when Black Magic goes his car done. Contacting Mark (Wax Wizard) might be an idea too, especially if you can gather say 3 of you together.

If you do a search for Wax Wizard on here, you should be able to come up with some reviews/pictures etc

HTH,

Steve

Should also bring up a post saying he's not trading at the moment...shame if the reviews are anything to go by though...

Rob.

I'm from York and would be most interested in having my car detailed its covered in those damn fine scratches!!!

Wrong end of the country!! He seems to have disappeared off the briskoda map as well.

Thanks for the help anyway, I might try to organise a West Yorkshire detailing meet.

Anyone surfing (or lurking, Robbo) interested??.

Thanks again, G:thumbup:

Yeah Graham. Bring it up 'I'll give it the once over!! Need a good day. Saturday looks like being good

Quick bump before I retire:

Any takers for a meet ??

If you're offering, I'd be grateful!

Can I ask what is actually the difference between cleaning and "detailing"? :P

Cleaning is, well, to clean the car.

Detailing is the process which removes the fine scratches and swirls from the paintwork by using a Porter Cable to remove the clear coat to the same level as the scratch to remove them. (I think thats right)

 Can't do that too many times then! So why is it called detailing? Surely "cutting" or "polishing" would be more descriptive.

PS what's a Porter Cable?

Yeah, I'm not too sure where this 'detailing' term came from. Probably another Yank import!

Porter Cable is a powered circular buffer.

To me, it's basically very precise cleaning, with emphasis on removing swirls and scratches, so it's as near to showroom condition as possible.

Steve

detailing is just that, it is going into extreme detail to clean. ive heard of people using cotton bbuds to clean vents

it is going top to bottom removing every little make be it paint glass plastic or meta and cleaning everything to better than shoow room shine (if possible)

a Porter Cable (PC) 7424 is normally used is an american tool. it is a random orbital polisher that has varying speed and is great to control on delicate paintwork

hense it being my summer purchace

hope this helps

back to topic

i would love to help and give your car a once over, but im a relative newb at this and dont have all the tools i would need (yet!)

oh and also abit far for a daytrip!

the guys at detailing world would help and are very friendly and would explain anything you didnt understand (if they could). have alook for someone in your neck of the woods

Scott

I might live to regret asking this, but having just read another thread about buffing wax off - which is basically a lot of hard work and elbow grease - it would seem to make sense as a bright idea to put a piece of lambswool mit onto a common or garden Bosch orbital sander.

Given it's 3.52 am, I might wake up in the morning and think I dreamt asking this

Guys, Rich from Polishedbliss done my car which had thousands of scratches and swirls.

When we started the paint and clearcote ( the bit with all the scratches ) was averaging 120 microns thick, the most we took away was one very bad bit and we removed 5 microns, most scratches were 2 or less.

The biggest difference was clay baring the car it got rid of all the pollutants and grime stuck to the paint.

Over on www.detailingworld.co.uk they have a frapper map of members with PC's willing to do some detailing.

Detailing gives you a great starting point for ongoing maintenance to your cars paintwork.

What i suggest you all do is clean your car then rub your fingers over the paint, bet it feels smooth, now do the same with say a cigarette packet rapper on your fingers. Post your results here. :)

Also try examining your paint for swirls under a Halogen or xenon lamp to detect swirls and scratches from using your spounges.

See you Saturday Graham. Did mine today:

Camera does not do it justice!!
