Brand New Sportline with Irritating Noise

Featured Replies

Just taken delivery of one of the very last sportline estates 1.5 DSG models on 69 plate and like it very much, but enjoyment slightly impaired by an intermittent clicking / creaking from what sounds like to be from above the windscreen maybe in the headlining. Wouldn’t mind on a 5 year old motor but a new motor with 100 miles on the clock you sort of feel a bit let down by a VW group car. Anybody had similar issues? Hoping it might settle down but horrible feeling it is a permanent optional extra I never ordered! 😫

Apologies if you've done this already but I'd advice having someone sit in the passenger seat or the rear seat and have them detect where the sound is coming from.

I've been caught out a few times with daft things I thought were problems from elsewhere in the cabin. Latest was when I collected my brand new car a few weeks ago, I returned to the dealer after having driven it a couple of miles convinced the sunroof or the sunblind was squeaking directly above my right ear. Mechanic sat in passenger seat, then sat in rear seat. Turned out the rear parcel shelf hadn't been fitted properly and the edge was rubbing against the leather seat.

Just a thought - you haven't placed anything in the overhead cubby normally used for glasses by any chance?

I occasionally have an irritating noise, but most of my miles are commuting so I leave the wife and kids at home.

Cheers for comments. I'll see if it settles down and if not will be taking a mechanic for a little ride! Fully agree about leaving wife and kids at home!

I had a creaking noise that sometimes sounded like it was coming from the headlining. I eventually cured it by lowering the backs of the rear seats and then firmly pushing them back into place. Never did work out why it sometimes sounded like it was coming from the roof.

Do you have a Pan Roof ?

Hi no pan roof otherwise I would have been looking very closely at that. Cheers anyway.

Finally found out where this is coming from! It is the centre consul silver alloy metal plate trim that surround the auto gear stick and has the row of switches at the top. Press it down and it stops. Push your leg against the centre consul and it stops, Tried WD40 down all the gaps and under the stick shroud to no effect. Will try silicone spray next I guess. Anybody else had this and solved it. Sounds like rain tapping on the windscreen but there is no rain! 😆
