Octavia VRS230 reversing!!!

Featured Replies

Just bought a VRS 230

tried to reverse and cannot see a bloody thing .. total darkness! Asked the wife to get out and look if the bulbs had failed - she said no alight!!

Well it is impossible to reverse the bloody thing in the dark as there is NO light shed behind the car or in the live of the wing mirrors.

Have I got a crap ne or are they all like this ?

Having the factory reversing camera even in the dark the view behind the car is very bright and clear. Best option on my car IMHO.;)

If that's the only option then car is going on sale next week !

My wife's facelift VRS is great lights all round .. this is pants barely adequate headlights and not possible to reverse in the dark .. a joke

do they make much difference ? any suggestions for which as I see there are issues with Canbus and LED ? It seems to me that the internal"hooding" of the bulbs is an issue ?

Yes, they do make a huge difference, and yes, a tweak with VCDS software or OBD eleven will be needed to stop bulb errors.

I bought mine >3 years ago, will see if I can find a link.

Try these, as linked in the thread above:

Thanks very much :) - I will try them I was truly shocked by how bad they are .. worse than the 60's with single bulbs on the   number plate !

They have to make them like that for the UK market because of the data protection act.

I have heard it blamed for far less plausible things multiple times 🤣

Video shows LED reversing lights with no CANBUS errors (built-in resistors?). There are some threads on LED bulbs where one member, whose name I can't remember, tested quite a few from AliExpress.

Do both of your reversing lights come on or is only one enabled? I used OBDEleven to enable both fog lights but can't remember if reversing was the same.

H265 video didn't work, trying H264 instead.

Thanks for the vid -- if mine were anything like this I wold be happy!  Yes both come on but the light is blue white and weak as a candle -- literally putting my hand 2ft behind the light it is barely visible!

Here's a link to a fn bright reversing bulb: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/DmLexUac

Almost 2 years and 90k km and they still work in my car. Coding not needed, their power is about 15-20 Watts each, so the car is happy with them.

Yes, they are as bright as on the video. :)

I already ordered these from your earlier posting .. hopefully they will also work ? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2036956876.html?mb=6QAJbEzrZyeWpyY&srcSns=Copy to Clipboard&tid=white_backgroup_101&tt=sns_Copy&rdtUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.aliexpress.com%2Fitem%2F2036956876.html%3Fmb%3D6QAJbEzrZyeWpyY%26srcSns%3DCopy%20to%20Clipboard%26tid%3Dwhite_backgroup_101&aff_platform=default&cpt=1576862543184&sk=ruPtUx1yB&aff_trace_key=757aded46a924f99b3f5cde6245a0e20-1576862543184-06318-ruPtUx1yB&businessType=ProductDetail&templateId=white_backgroup_101&platform=AE&terminal_id=7144747e4e6c486b8fae59241abd7e6b

Have you also replaced foglights without coding and which bulbs did you use please?

Yep, they will also work without coding. You won't be disappointed with the light output because those bulbs are still 2-3 times brighter than the originals.

Check the feedbacks with pictures and you'll find mine. :)

Thanks .. sadly the VrS 230 uses H 16 fogs 😞

You can probably still install them with zero modification, because it's very similar to H8 and the led bulb has an universal socket anyway. Make sure you have enough space for the heatsinks though. Obviously you'll need 2 pairs. :)

The led bulb will be a little bit blueish compared to your xenons. I have (higher color temp) LED headlights and the color matching is very good in my case.

Thanks Aki 78 will have to look into this :)

Sadly reversing lights are to signal to others you are reversing, not to illuminate your way.

I've never driven a car with reversing lights that actually light up behind you, they'd need to be as bright as the headlights to be of much use.

Audi A6, VW passat , Audi 90 quattro , audi 80, audo 90 , audi 100, sdoka octavia mk2, octavia VRS facelift 2018 all light up behind well enough to reverse between obstacles in the pitch black !!  Been driving 50 years ad never had issues before this POS ..

I had a MkII Octavia estate and can't say they were much use. If decent rearward visibility was required I often had to turn on the rear fog light, and sometimes the hazard lights helped too.

Yes, if you want to reverse at 60 mph. ;)

Most halogen headlights aren't much good at 60mph, when reversing in pitch black conditions, in an unfamiliar area, and with multiple obstructions, the more light the better.

Having the same amount of rearward visibility as enjoyed from the front would be ideal.

Great for the driver, not so great for anyone having to look at them!
