Outside air temp reading

Featured Replies

Hello l have a 2017 superb estate and the outside air temperature reading is roughly 10 degrees higher than it should be for example when it's 8 degrees it reads 18-19 degrees. Is this a common fault?. l cannot find where the sensor is to check. On my Octavia it's easy to locate but not on the superb.

I'd have hoped it was somewhere similar i.e. behind the front bumper somewhere?

They look similar to this and are usually down near the fog lights and horn wiring loom somewhere...

Can't help with where the sensor is, sorry, but I can confirm the sensor on mine (2017) reads pretty accurately. A 10c difference is not normal. Is your car still under warranty?

Mine shows the correct temps too.

I believe this is the outside temp sensor for the mk3 Superb.

Same year, sedan. Same problem. About 10-15 degrees higher than real temp.

Did you fix this? If so how?

Maybe possible error in sensor temperature.

But it depends on the environment.

The outside air temperature sensor is very much ‘for user usage’.
Even more confusing when you’re saying it’s less accurate because it’s only for electronics? When in reality electronic uses require much more precision than what the user requires.

either say, it’s a thermocouple in a plastic housing, they’ve extremely accurate and work off resistance, so if you’re consistently reading 10c off of every reading then my first port of call would be a slightly high/low resistance in the wiring or plugs which is bringing it slightly above 0ohms and causing the misreading

I am not claiming anything like that. read what I write... The sensor is very accurate but the cluster logic compensates with an unknown formula for large changes downwards or upwards... As a result, there is a long delay between the temperature change on the Maxidot display....
