Sportline Towbar

Featured Replies

HI All,

Have a Sportline DSG 7 Seater.  And looking at getting a tow bar on it.

Have someone selling a retractable towbar from a Kodiaq and I cant seem to find a definitive answer on whether the retractable one  (pictured) will fit on the Sportline with the different bumper.  (Rang 2 local skoda dealers, each give a different answer).  Then rang Skoda UK and they actually said you cant fit a towbar on a 7 seater TDI at all, the guy actually said it was because of the TDI engine, so I promptly put the phone down .  (I am aware of the restriction with the Manual gearbox, but mine is the DSG)

Can you spec it on the car if you were buying new? - if so then its likely to fit.

I am sure you are also aware that unless the car was supplied prepped for towing - then there are other mods needed... There is a few threads here detailing it.

@wokwon

Can you help... not sure what model yours was that you fitted one too..

Hi thanks @SimonAudi , just done the config and it allows you to select it so should be ok.

The car was a purchase from a insurer so needed work on it. While changing.some of the the front end we ensured we put in the upgraded Fan and Grills.

Spoke to VagTech as well as local dealers where I can get the wiring loom and switch.

What is your question, will it fit?

As long as it is a genuine Skoda towbar for the Kodiaq (which it looks like from the pictures), then yes it will physically fit.

The bumpers across all the Kodiaq models are the same with or without the towbar fitted, the only difference is that if factory fitted a section of the bumper is cut out.

So, if you're looking to retrofit one to your SportLine then as long as you can fit the additional wiring and switch and then get the car properly coded it should be doable.

This is a vRS with a non-genuine towbar retrofitted. The fitter cut out the aperture in the bumper...

@wokwon might have a picture of his old Kodiaq with the bumper still on?

Fantastic.  Thanks for the info guys.  Bought the tow bar now.  Now just need to try and locate the part numbers for the wiring loom, switch and control module so I source them and get them fitted, hoping to.do the rear camera at the same time so can run the wires together.

Take a look on Kufatec for wiring looms etc

Hi, mine was dealer fit, before the car was delivered.  See 2 pics of the bumper bar with the hole they cutout.  They left this book in the car (pics attached) and it shows some part numbers which might help.  Might be different part numbers as mine was homologated for 'straya and New Zealand.

Car is a MY19 Kodiaq 132TSI 7-seat.

They did an ordinary job fitting it, they mounted the kick-to-open sensors to the wrong part so the boot opened if you just walked past the rear.  I had to take the bumper off anyway to fit the reversing lights and TPMS module so I re-positioned the sensor strips at the same time.

Would it help if I scanned the installation manual?

@wokwon

Fantastic thank you for the pics and post. Its a great help.

Yes please the scan of the installation pages would be great if.its not too much trouble.

Trying to do as much work on the car myself sourcing the individual parts in the hope I can stretch my budget to do more retrofit options.

Any idea what part E is?  Also can you still easily see the individual part number on your tow bar, if so is it the same as the one I have bought (pics in original poat).

The part numbers in the manual is for the combination of the individual parts so hard to tell.

Thanks.  What wiring part number that@wokwon posted in the pic is around 40GBP at the dealers so thats not too bad.

That would be brilliant!

The Engrish section of the installation manual is attached here.Scan_001663.pdf

First bit is the Ikea-style pictographs, 2nd bit is the written instructions.

It's the template for the hole you cut out.

Can't see it sorry as it's hidden by the bumper now.

@wokwon Excellant.  Thank you very much.  If there was an "Above and Beyond" emoji, it would be straight over to you.🏆

Thanks to the ither posters as well.  I have not made a list of part numbers and getting them ordered.  Not working out too bad around 280GBP for all the bits.  Looks like saved enough to add to my list of retro fits.

Next job is figuring out components for the Front Parking Sensors.  This is a bit easier as ETKA diagrams are quite good with this section.

Right, we have got all the bits and the used tow bar is already retracted out.  Before we start wiring everything in, is there a quick way to send power to the towbar to get the hook to retract back. Maybe get a live and earth straight from the battery and connect temporarily to some pins on one of the plugs
