Skoda Octavia (2014) - Oil change

Featured Replies

Hi ,

I have Skoda Octavia (2014) with DSG Gearbox (7 gears) and I am not sure if I should change oil within my gearbox. I have heard different opinions about that, some people saying it it sealed therefore it is not necessary , other people have different opinion, that Oil should be change after 80k miles.
Please see attached Specification sticker from the boot. It is a black magic for me, but I am hopping that someone will help me.

Thanks for Help

Michal

There isn't an official change interval for the DQ200 7 speed DRY Transmission from VAG providing that is what you have:

Gearbox type Gears Service interval Fluid*
DQ200 0CW 7-speed No service interval G 055512A2
DQ250 0D9 6-speed 40,000 miles - Fluid and filter G 052182A2
DQ381 0GC 7-speed 80,000 miles - Fluid only G 055529A2
DQ400** 0DD 6-speed 40,000 miles - Fluid only G 052182A2
DQ500 0DL 7-speed 40,000 miles - Fluid only G 052182A2
DQ500 0BH 7-speed 40,000 miles - Fluid only G 052182A2
DL382 - 7-speed 40,000 miles - Fluid only G 055529A2
DL501 - 7-speed 40,000 miles - Fluid and filter G 052529A2

The trouble is some dealers still offer that you get this done and even the Skoda site suggests it's an option I can select even though my DQ200 has been chosen as my gearbox.

Personally, knowing that these gearboxes can be a bit, shall we say, temperamental I won't be changing mine unless there becomes a problem with the gear changes etc.  You also need a garage that knows exactly what they are doing before you start removing fluids from the DQ200.

Thanks for your answer. how do you know that my Gearbox type is DQ200 ?

I don't for sure without seeing the car and investigating.

You have the 1.6 TDi with 77KW / 105BHP?

If so likely to be that one since that is what is offered in the range.

i think i have 77KW engine , it is so hard to find out what to do with that Oil . . . thanks for helping. maybe someone else have other suggestions how to check it  . . . .

Pretty sure the only 'sealed for life' box is the DQ200 and it is the usual box for lower powered cars.  Without looking under the hood most on here would put money on it being that box.  Officially it has no change frequency.  However, the only dry bit is the clutch.  The gears and I think actuators still use oil so a periodic change would be wise depending on how long you intend to keep it.

i can look under the hood  by my self but what do i looking for ? can you guide me pls? am i looking for plate ? number ? shape ? appreciate your help

@MikiBal

There is no Service Schedule or Guidelines for changing the oil in a DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry clutch DSG.

There are 2 oils, in the Box and the MCU and if you found someone in the know that agreed to change the oils it would be because you want it.

But.

Since your DQ200 is built between 2013-2015 you best check if it should have the Service Campaign, '34H5' which was started early 2017.

A Software update as a preventative measure.

If done there should be a sticker beside the Build Sticker showing it as done.

Not all required it, but until recently the VIN checker never showed ones that did require it.

FWD 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, 1.8 TSI's with no more than 192 BHP & 250 Nm Torque get a DQ200 DSG.

Also 1.6TDI's.

They are not used with 2.0 TSI or TDI's or cars with Haldex.

The 7 speed Dry Clutch gearboxes were fitted to all petrol DSG cars below 2ltrs and have no official service  interval though dealers will often tell you otherwise as they frequently confuse then with the wet clutch DSG service interval - every 40k miles, or simply are trying to make money.  Do make sure you have any relevant service notices applied to your car/box - https://www.automd.com/recall-tsb/

Ultimately the choice is yours depends on how much spare cash you have to give to the dealer.

I am of the opinion that if you have a DSG gearbox then oil and filter should be done at 40k. Make sure they change the gearbox oil filter too....I even had a gearbox oil change done on previous manual Octavia's. It made the driving experience so much nicer...and I do mechanical sympathy.

@varaderoguy

Who is it you would have do this for you on a DQ200 DSG, would it be a main dealer or a independent specialist?

Where on the gearbox would they find this filter to change on the DQ200 DSG?

Dealer service. It's a fixed priced item about 180 quid. In essence, you need to specifically tell them to change the filter which is just inside the oil filler for the gearbox. It's not part of the standard oil change (I asked a technician at a Skoda dealer).

@varaderoguy

Did you have a car with a DQ200 and what was it?

& if he said he did it for the same price or his employers did as for the Fixed Price Service of a Wet Clutch DSG then that was an odd one out.

Either he or you do not know your ar53 from your elbow i suspect when it comes to DQ200 DSG's.   You can do an oil change and some do, and Main Dealers that book you in usually then say we made a mistake we can  not do those.

That is my point guys, Main dealer said better to do it but he was not 100% sure. Guys from Audi garage said do not do it. my mechanic , is clever lad said he actually is not sure but he can do it for me if i really want. I am still not sure if I have DQ200 DSG 😥 and can you see my point? I am not a mechanic or car expert, but I do not want to harm my gearbox .

my Octavia has over 90k miles  now so I am dont know what to do HELP!!!!

@MikiBal    A 2014 Octavia with 77Kw and a 7 speed dsg, means you have a DQ200.

Have you checked the VIN checker and see if you have an outstanding Recall Action.  That would be an idea.

You could call a Skoda Main Dealers or go in and ask them to check if your DQ200 needs the Service Campaign, and while there ask the price to do an Oil change on your DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG.

As root said. You have a low powered engine with dsg. This means it's a dq200. They are officially sealed but they have fill/drain holes so can be be changed. If you want to keep the car I'd seriously ask around to see who will do the work and make sure they know it's a dq200.
