VCDS

I don't know about the Kamiq but would be surprised if it doesn't act the same as any other Skoda.

Pressing the assist button on the steering column brings up the assist menu on the dash. Select the 'Lane Assist' option using the scroll wheel and tick/untick the box by pressing the scroll wheel. The settings SHOULD be retained next time you start the car.

I've used capital letters for should because that's the way my system worked until it had to be re-calibrated by the garage and as you say, the setting wasn't retained. Initially the dealer was a tad confused why they weren't being saved but after speaking to Skoda HQ, found there was some code missing. All back to normal now - my lane assist stays permanently off.

As I say, I don't know about the Kamiq but I guess it's possible your system isn't coded properly. No harm in asking garage to check it out.

It does look like the Dealership might need someone on the case with the Plugged in gear and a bit more than just an idea.

Someone who is "simply clever" perhaps? ;)

As I said above, other than sitting in a showroom model I'm not familiar with tha Kamiq, but just watched a review of the UK model where the presenter says it defaults to Lane Assist on at start up.

I only had to live with that for a week until my Octavia was repaired correctly - a week which I found frustrating. I'm not a fan of lane assist so would want it disabled.

Found out tonight that lane assist does not activate until i reach 40 mph well in mine

Not the devil - Crawley from good omens. Wonder how many accidents it causes before they decide it is NOT a safety feature.

Lane assist, I'm told, is part of the Euro NCAP certification (under which the Kamiq has 5 stars) and cannot be switched off completely.

So far this "safety feature" has kicked in quite a few times and has never been right in it's guess at my position on the road. On one occasion it frightened the hell out of me and I thought it was going to dump me in the ditch at the side of a moorland road with no lane markings whatsoever.

When it has been safe to do so, I have tested it by deliberately steering slightly out of my lane but this didn't create any warning or response from the system.

This one 'feature' is, as far as I am concerned, a good reason not to buy a Kamiq. It's extremely unreliable and in a nervous driver might well be the cause of an over reaction and an accident.

I have it now and find it is a bit unnerving at times.  The stop/start in the Octavia took a bit of getting used to  and so I will stick with this lane assist to see if I get used to it in time. It's early days at only about 100 miles.  Had a Basil Fawlty moment twice when for no particular reason that I could see, the system told me to'Take control of steering'.  I thought ' what the**** !  and any more of that And I'lgive it a damned good thrashing. Lol.

While the Lane Assist function may certainly be of use in certain settings (motorways perhaps?), for town and country driving, I've quickly come to harbour reservations.

Since Covid has resulted in an explosion of cyclists upon country lanes, I've grown to appreciate that my recently delivered Kamiq appears to possess a certain disdain towards them.  Upon attempting to provide the many recreational wannabe 'Sir Bradleys' with a wide berth, thus, resulting in nearing of/crossing the white lines in centre, the steering wheel attempts to pull the vehicle directly into their path as I pass.

Granted, as many recreational cyclists possess 'all the gear but no idea', proceeding to cycle 4-5ft from the kerb/grass verge, while their distinct lack of road sense does annoy me, I wouldn't wish to see them come to harm during incredibly difficult times.

Having wrestled with the Lane Assist function on numerous occasions since taking delivery of my Kamiq, as my street turns on to a country lane with a 40mph speed limit, I've begun to disable the function via the touchscreen.  However, it is a shame that the infotainment system automatically re-activates the function upon re-starting of the engine.  Skoda really ought to issue an update that allows the driver far greater autonomy.

Intelligent they may be, 21st Century vehicles still cannot predict where they're going to be driven after turning the key or pressing the start/stop button.

You actually think I should indicate twice, every time I want to straight line a corner?

I don't actually want you to do anything, The lane assist being cancelled by indicating

is merely for information.

All well and good if you are actually undertaking some sort of manoeuvre. My first experience was on a long straight country lane just about two cars wide with ditches both sides but a very patchy surface. This was half an hour after I picked up the car.  It frightened me stiff and has left a deep seated distrust that I will never get over.

What confuses me is that Skoda actually allow you to turn off Lane Assist, so how can it be unsafe?  I guess that it reverts to On next time you start the engine as someone else could be driving who may not realise that Lane Assist is off.  But the car can identify which key is being used, so should be able to decide that it's the same driver and therefore keep the previous setting.  But no, it doesn't.  In fact, even if it just reverted to On when you've left the car and locked the doors, that would be an improvement.

I have exactly the same problem with it switching out of Eco mode every time I switch off.

So these so-called "safety features" are actually unsafe as you have to reset them every time you start the engine.  I know, you should do this before you set off, but life is too short...

I had my first event with the Lane Assist, a car and a half wide road in Wales.

With a white line marking the nearside edge and a broken white centreline,

the lane assist kept me safely on my side of the road as tractors and

utility vehicles hurtled very closely by my car.

I can understand some people taking fright as "a ghostly hand" takes the wheel

to guide away from a road line but after a while you should get used to it surely?

just as you get used to the width of a car when you first started driving.

Acording to this video, there is the option to activate lane assist memory,so once you deactivate it ,it will remain deactivated even if you turn the engine off.

In order to activate it you need someone with a special scan tool ,i'm sure there are ppl around doing this stuff.

Not sure how it affects the cars warranty.

OK, so it is possible, but the problem is finding someone reliable in the UK who can do it.

PM to SashaGrace, at least if you're prepared to come out of the SUV ghetto.
