Good spot on the Castrol, they are often the 4 litre containers for that price, 5 litres for £28 does make the Quantum less appealing.

Tell me about it, the st needs best part of 7 litres of castrol edge 0w40 😢 so have to buy 2 4 litre jugs.

Well I'm all ready for when the weather gets better. Also while I was out ecp had some philips 150% bulbs on for £20 so thought I'd give them a go.

Any chance of a pair of comparison pictures of the lights before and after? I have halogen headlights and looking to upgrade as well!

Having read through a few of the adaptations posts there's a few things I'd like to try out this weekend.

I had a play with the carista plug and app this evening.

I changed the throttle response setting which has definitely improved throttle response. (funnily enough)

Ive also enebled the directional fog lights when turning, last fill up amount in the maxi dot screen and a few other bits and pieces.

To be honest I feel the app is a bit basic, good for a beginner but lacking for more experienced users. I'm probably going to look at getting the obdeleven plug as well for the long coding.

So, I finally got around to fitting fitting the new bulbs.

Before.

IMG_01022020_175758_(1080_x_810_pixel).thumb.jpg.1aee69ca8ea745707c678a0cbfd176a6.jpg

After.

IMG_01022020_175809_(1080_x_810_pixel).thumb.jpg.e734a6698a5a985dea72ad9739e922b2.jpg

For some reason my phone camera makes the old bulbs look very yellow and the new bulbs very white. Realistically there isn't that much colour difference but the new bulbs have improved things.

Also while tinkering a changed the oil and filter and air filter.

I spent a good 10 minutes looking for the oil filter housing, expecting it to be under the bonnet facing upwards. Turns out its underneath hidden behind wires and pipes.

I also found where the annoying rattle was coming from, the last person to work on the car hadn't put the under tray back on properly 🙄

I updated the maps on the amundsen this afternoon.

After a few hiccups I finally got there. I had bought a new sd card but no matter how I formatted it, it just wouldn't recognise it. So ended up formatting the original skoda sd car and putting the new map files on that.

Unfortunately after checking the website again it appears there's a new version of the maps since I downloaded them a few weeks back 😢

The Amundsen requires a genuine Skoda SD card as it has embedded security data that the Amundsen checks for.

I noticed a couple of days ago that the Skoda portal is (finally) showing the 2020 maps (at least for my MIBq Amundsen), but I've been running the 2020 maps for several months by downloading them from the VW website

Ahh that makes sense.

We have terrible Internet where we live, which is why I'm more miffed  about it. so if I want big stuff downloading I usually tie it in with the shopping at asda and use their free WiFi. Are there any differences between the vw and skoda maps?

Wow, that bad.  Do you take a laptop in the car to Asda then?

I am on VW maps on my 69 plate with no issues or anything that makes it look non standard.  What size is your Skoda SD card? Fortunately mine is a 32GB  one so currently I have no size issues with any maps on either the Skoda or VW sites.

For the most part I download stuff on my phone and transfer it over, but if the laptop needs an update then its easier to sit in the asda cafe and have breakfast or something while it does its thing.

Unfortunately it's only a small one, 8gb but just enough to fit the 6gb updated maps on.

As I have the 32gb card I have the ECE A1 map on it, not sure when I will visit then extremities, which version are you using?

The downloaded file was STD1_P81_EU_201920

I would be lost without decent internet at home, 95% of everything we watch is streamed. When I enquired bout a cheaper broadband / fibre package with my ISP, I was advised against anything restricted as our monthly usage is well over 100gb.  No I don't run a media server!!!  I generally use up to 15gb (not including WiFi) on my phone....

What coverage does that give you?

Albania, Andora, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Respublic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Kosovo, Croatia, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Malta, Macedonia (the former Yugoslav Respublic of), Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Vatican City, United Kindom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

For (currently 13gb), I get:

Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Faroe Islands, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Vatican City State.

The duplication of Ireland must be huge!!!  Oh sorry you get that too!!  So it looks like I gain Cyprus and after being there I can assure you there are very few roads there!!  You have Turkey that I don't & your data is pretty well half the size of mine.  That makes no sense.

Looks like you get Faroe Islands too, doesn't seem like much more for the extra 7gb. I'll have a proper look in the files tomorrow to see what the version I have actually covers as the list I posted was copied off a website saying my version covers these places.

Maybe the newer cars are more data hungry for things like 3d POI & more accurate mapping needed for live traffic.
