Oil Pump Chain = Engine Failure - Is this the CUSB/CUTA engine code in 2015 1.4tdi?

Hi All,

Firstly a standard apology if this topic/question has been covered/answered before but after hours of searching I cannot find it.

 

My wife has been rather taken by a 2015 Skoda Fabia Estate Mk3 2015 1.4tdi Monte Carlo which I believe has the CUTA engine code (see line 8 of attached). This is to replace her Suzuki Swift 2010 SZ4 as our 5 week old sons pram is too large for the boot meaning the carry cot needs to go on the back seat and it is simply not practical. I have a 2006 Mk1 Fabia VRS which I am smitten with and so rather like the idea of the Mrs also having a Fabia. 

 

After searching for any common faults associated with this model and variant, I came across multiple stories of the oil pump chain snapping and becoming entangled meaning engine failure and replacement. 

 

Finally to the point of my post: does anyone know if this fault occurs on the CUTA engine code?

 

Any help greatly appreciated before we take out a loan on a ticking time bomb of a car.

Have you read the over heating thread pinned at the top of the page?

That is a worry, especially as out of warranty Skoda / VW do not give a tosh.

 

Why not go for a 1.2TSI ?

Thanks for the speedy response and tagging a potential whizz. Not read that thread but will give it a read now, thanks again. Is the 1.2 TSI generally considered the best of the bunch? And no faults of it's own?

the last of the 1.2 TSI's are tried and tested and doing well so far.  The 1.0TSI's so far as well & with a GPF time will tell.

 

The Euro 6 1.4TDi's went for a reason.

Although I'm a big fan of diesel engines, I switched to a Mk3 1.2 TSi MC DSG and so far it is proving a fine engine and works well with the DSG box. The engine is surprisingly nippy, especially when you select sports mode. I hate the start/stop, which fortunately is dead simple to disable permanently!

No, sorry I don't claim to know anything about the 1.4TDI engines, oil pump drive chain breaking etc, that sounds a lot like the issues that VW Group had with the 2.0 CR engines, well that started off with a "too short engagement" hex drive system that got evolved into a "new fangled" chain drive, another slight design or integration slip up!

 

I'd support heading for a 1.2TSI 16V as their fuel economy is very good and they are able to move this size of car along quite nicely - well works for me in my wife's 2015 VW Polo.

Can anyone do me a favour and tell me how many pages your service booklet has? We went back to see and test drive the car today and all seems fine but the service booklet only has 7 pages and I suspect that it has had pages removed for some reason. It has 4 services at an independent garage and the attached paperwork detailing recalls to Skoda:

- 97cu recall is fuel software

- 19m5 is coolant and an online chat with Skoda confirmed they replaced the coolant and not the pump

- 30e1 is clutch pipes

My 2014 Citigo service schedule book has 7 pages and the part no on the back cover is 1ST 012 720 SG covers all models and has the date 05.2014. This is almost certainly the same one as yours.

I think this was changed when all servicing records were switched to on line records. A dealer can search the service history simply. 

When I purchased my "previously owned" Fabia MC, it came with a printout of the service and recall history. I'd like to think this was done for the owners' conenience, but I can't help thinking it's to encourage us to use Skoda agents for all our servicing.

I was aware of erWin, but thought it was a dealer only database. I've now created an account and will search my own history. Thank you for the info.

Hi cuta & cusb TDI engines are gear driven and the oil pump is direct driven from the balancershaft assembly,IE no oil pump drive chain

Yes cam is belt driven But the oil pump is driven by the balancershaft which is gear driven direct from crankshaft gear.As usual wiki gives you only part of the info.
