Skoda Citigo rattling noise from transmission

An update- the mechanics at the dealership replaced the clutch and the noise got far worse. Apparently the vibrations are so bad, that the entire car is shaking. Now they think it's a gearbox problem, they don't have another Citigo in store,so they will be replacing the gearbox with Seat Mii gearbox. I think this car is cursed, may be looking for refund soon☹️

I find it hard to believe that gearbox makes car shaking. Some shaking is normal because 3 cylinder. How much is normal it's hard to say without seeing and feeling.

I'm not sure they know what they're doing. Replacing the clutch only to discover that wasn't the problem? What happens if replacing gearbox doesn't fix the problem? New engine?😉

If changing the clutch makes things worse, it seems possible they have misassembled the thing, or maybe fitted the wrong part!

I assume Citigos have single-mass flywheels - dual mass ones are prone to breaking - so maybe that can be ruled out.

Did they replace the thrust bearing too?

If you're replacing the clutch friction plate it's a a false economy to not replace the thrust bearing.

Exactly my point!

This is why I don't trust so called "professionals" anymore. They just don't know what they are doing nowadays.

They did replace the bearing, because they thought that was the problem initially

Got another call, the seat Mii gearbox didn't fit😂🤣. It's a joke now. Will be getting reconditioned one. The rattle is not the usual Skoda rattle, apparently the service technician took it for a spin and the rattle is there when driving. So I'm guessing it was the gearbox all along.

Car is just back after being brought to a specialist mechanic to recondition the gearbox. The bearings had to be replaced. The rattling noise is gone, just the standard ticking sound of uneven idling in 3 cylinder car. Thanks for all advice 😊

sorry for bumping this thread, but I think it maybe worth it. I have my citigo for around 2 years now. I bought it second hand from skoda dealer. my dad have one and my friend bought one as well as she was well impressed by the mpg's.

to the point. since the beginning of my ownership of this funky little car, I had the same problem, rattling in the gearbox area when started cold and when the clutch pedal was pressed - it would disappear. at the dealership, I was told, that this is normal for those cars, however neither my dad's nor friend's car doesn't make that noise. having extra free time of work I've decided to look into this problem.

I've bought a clutch kit from eurocarparts, fitted and... there is no more rattling for me! if you hear the same noises - just get your clutch sorted.

The mechanic at the dealership thought it was clutch release bearings problem in my car at fist, but after replacing the clutch(with all the components-pressure plate, flywheel etc.)they discovered that wasn't the problem and the noise was still there. Reconditioning gearbox fixed the problem for me(gearbox input shaft bearings were at fault).Thankfully all done under warranty.
