Mice!

Featured Replies

Had some visitors to the engine bay recent. Now I'm happy this is all they've decided to eat but I'd rather they didn't come back. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get rid of them??

Thanks

Is your car garaged? You may be able to put down traps and poison, but it may be a bit tricky if the cars is left parked outside.

I thought most cars had a cat these days. 😖

Haha 😂 🤦🏻‍♂️

No it's outside. I'm going to get one of those ultrasonic thi gs to put in the engine bay just to deter them.

I've read that the ultrasonic things just don't work at all.  I had some success with peppermint oil, sprayed around.  Luckily for me, mine's right under a sycamore tree and they bring their own food in the form of the seeds.  Hoping by the time those run out it'll be warm enough that they don't feel the need to steal my engine's afterglow any more.

Ah I'd read about peppermint oil. I'll get some of that too!

Yeah they seem to be content at the minute as they've not returned.

Well either that or they've found somewhere even more expensive to nest! 😂

We had a similar mouse problem with my wife’s Q3, they’d had a good munching session on the foam section which seals the bonnet from the wings and plenum chamber. I gave the whole lot with a good dousing of WD40. We think it’s done the trick as they haven’t been back since.

I had this problem with my previous Superb III, where they chewed through the harness and most assistance systems keeled over. After a few hundred quids worth of repairs I did a couple of things. I parked further away from the trees and fence I think the mice live in, but only 10 feet or so. I also installed an ultrasonic thing on the drive that was under the car when parked and switched it on overnight. Seemed to do the trick. I was 'inbetween dogs' at the time too, which I'm sure was a factor. When my new dog arrived I removed the ultrasonic thing. No problems since - fingers crossed! It was this time of year, too.
