Retrofitting Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Featured Replies

I have recently bought a 67 Plate Kodiaq Edition that only has standard cruise control. My car has distance warning, blind spot warning and lane keeping assist. Is upgrading to ACC going to be as simple as buying the different stalk and coding it in? Anyone have experience of it?

That's my point I'm wondering if it can be achieved by just adding the stalk on the steering column. Then coding it in.

AS I'm pretty sure my car has the radar as it has distance warning to the car in front and lane assist.

Nope.

if your car has distance warning and lane assist if it’s the same as my Q7 that is all managed by the camera at the top of the windscreen.

ACC uses a dedicated radar that sits on the front bumper or grill and on most cars looks like a black dome.

what does your radar look like?

As I have not seen this dome on any Kosdiaq, I assumed it was behind the centre of the grill?

yes could well be that on your grill

I'll have to get round to having a look behind it in the near future. I'm having the windscreen replaced on Friday. Will get the tech to photograph what is behind that also.

Check your car settings in headunit. Under Assists menu if you find Front Assist submenu, then you have radar.

Just checked. I have front assist.

So is all I need is the different cruise control stalk?

I have no idea, but sounds logically.

Search net for Passat B8 and Golf 7 ACC retrofitting, it`s the same as for Kodiaq.

Doesn't work like that. That requires feature enable codes to be activated to your gateway, and that you cannot do with coding. ODIS connection is the only way and that does not work if you don't have it from the factory.

Take a read here: http://mqb.pl/en/adaptive-cruise-control-retrofit-acc-on-mqb/ - all Kodiaq's with a radar have the middle range square radar.

Suggest you read here and message @Shahoff if you have more questions on what is possible

There is more than one type of radar, having something behind the grill i.e. a radar doesn't mean you have the right radar for ACC.

Also check your ABS unit that it supports ACC

I think all the radars fitted as front assist can be converted to support ACC. ABS units the same. The only difference can be in type of units which will then differenciate max speed under ACC 180 (170?) km/h and 210km/h. Mine came on 2L TDI front wheel drive was able to work as 210km/ph option

My conclusion at present is that it is possible, but certainly not as simple as swapping the column stalks over to the ACC type. It appears you need to know someone who can get you the activation codes from VAG?

I was hoping to fit this and hey presto...

ah sorry for link. https://www.instagram.com/vagretrofit
and stalks part number is : 5Q1953521AG or 5Q1953521DH, i can not find AG and used DH version.

So to clarify, if your Kodiaq has Front Assist then you already have the correct radar behind the grill for ACC?

You've upgraded the steering column stalk using the part numbers above, but critically you've found someone who has been able to remote access your vehicle and alter the coding to enable ACC?

Do I have that right?

firstly, i had original front assist radar, then i have sent an autoscan to them, they checked and said that; don't need change radar, just you should fit acc stalks.  In addition, I must mention that my radar part number: sw: 2Q0907572Q hw: 2Q0907572M H03.

they connected with teamviewer to my laptop and said plug diagnostic device. Unfortunately, I have not seen anything, since all the process are on their side.
If you need help activate codes, you can talk with them, trust me,  fascinated.

Wish I'd known this before paying 900 quid to Kufatec 😭😭

How much did this cost you in total?

I just paid for stalks costs to dealer and activate costs to them, even if you buy a radar and wire plus to mine not closer to 900e.

Radars around 50-70 euro on ebay,

Wire 35 euro

Stalks 147 euro

Activate costs ( i paid 380 euro )

632 euro totals, it depends on how can find cheaper parts i think

That's great information, thanks for sharing. Just wish I'd known sooner - it worked out very expensive for me. Still, I love ACC now that I have it 🙂
