Octavia VRS Exhaust and Coil Warnings

Featured Replies

Feeling a bit apprehensive. Last week in the torrential rain, the car next to me hit an enormous puddle at 50mph. Consequently my car had a deluge of water across it. At the roundabout for the motorway half a mile away I tried to put my foot down and the “coil” light had come on, flashing, putting the car in to limp mode. I got home and booked it in to VW/Skoda independent specialist I use for 3 days later. 2 days later the light had gone off. I assumed water had got in somewhere and it had dried out. I cancelled the booking. All good then a day later the coil light and the exhaust warning light came on. Booked it in and they could not find a fault despite 4 hours on it. The diagnostic said there was a leak in the exhaust system. The checks including smoke flow proved the exhaust was fine. The lights remain on. I now have to book in to thecSloda dealership. Anyone any ideas? I’m full of trepidation and apprehensive of a big bill. It’s 5 yrs old, diesel with 32k on the clock. Just had the glow plugs replaced too.

5 year old TDI with 32k (miles or km?) On the clock is quite low mileage and could be dpf related. What sort of driving do you do? I'd suggest taking it for a longer drive maybe up a motorway if you can for a half an hour.

Thanks for the reply. I do low miles during the week and then every other weekend circa 80-100 mile round trip on the motorway. So it gets a long run out frequently. I have assumed it was something to do with being covered in water.

The local specialist garage were baffled. It kept dropping out of the test they were doing.

I wander how/what they were testing. I'm familiar with modern car electronics but not testing processes. Maybe they can do a different test? Is it still going into limp mode?

Yep it is still going in to limp mode. Seems to kick in when I reach circa 50mph. The exhaust light comes on after 5-10 mins of driving. I will have to get it in to Skoda. Kerching, sadly.

I had a roughly related fault on my 2018 VRS, which was really odd.  When there was a heavy rain storm, the car "freaked out" - complained it had blown a lightbulb and went into Limp Mode with a U1195 (unexplained fault).  Firmware update to the MII2 system and to the car's ECU fixed the issue.

Ah ok. It’s booked in to Skoda on Thursday. Hopefully they will sort it with a firmware update too.
