1.9 tdi pd 130. 5 or 6 speed?

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Been a while.

Anyone know if the pd 130 came with a 5 speed or 6 speed box?

Hpi says 5 speed but seller says 6?

I am in need of a run about car as my e39 has sprung a fuel leak.

Am using my old(now my wifes) mk1 fabia vRS and loving how pokey she is. Specially after Clive remapped it for me.

Still going strong after 200k mile so I know the 1.9tdi is solid

welcome back Billy!!!!! it has been a while..

cant answer the question for you, but maybe the seller, like some others... count reverse as a speed?

If you have the service book (yes, I'm an optimist :) ) or look in the boot under the carpet you should be able to see the car data sticker which includes he fitted options, one of which will be for the gearbox.

According to Wikipedia, the only PD130 (128bhp) diesel was 2003-4 with an ASW engine:

"1.9 8v TDI 1,896 cc (115.7 cu in) 4 cyl SOHC PD 130 PS (96 kW; 128 hp) at 4000 rpm 310 N⋅m (229 lb⋅ft) at 1900 rpm ASZ 2003–2004"

I've tried searching the parts site (skoda.7zap,com) for the ASW engine in MY2003/2004 but ended up with some confusing results including a Brazilian model 1.9litre petrol engine!

Sorry I can't tell you the option codes for 5 or 6 speed gearboxes in this instance but the link below will enable you to enter a code and find out what it means.  The same sticker will tell you your engine code, too.

Just make sure you look at the gearlever and try all the gears when you test drive.

Ask me how I know 😞

When I bought my car it was advertised as a 2.0tdi, so on the phone I said "so its a 140hp 6 speed is that correct?" and they replied in the affirmative, during my inspection  I was concentrating on the broken engine mounting on which it had failed the MOT, could it be repaired? So I did a very short and gentle test drive.

Price agreed, money paid and I drove off with the car, first impression was this does not feel like 140hp, would not go into 6th gear and looked at gear knob to see only 5 gears on the symbol, turned out to be a 1.9 105 hp PD engine 🥴

then to compound my misery the V5 that I had looked at but not carefully enough showed it as a 1.9, the garage report with the MOT failure said engine mounting fractured, needs new bottom end" needed 😞

I had the last laugh though, it only cost £30 delivered for a new alternator/aircon bracket to repair the engine mounting and the 1.9 PD is a more reliable engine and goes well with a £100 remapped ECU.

I think the seller genuinely believed it was a 2.0, all the garage invoices showed it as that.

Maybe the car you are looking at has a 6 speed gearknob!!!

Haynes  suggests 130 engine is an ASZ and that 6 speed box was std with these

Putting the ASZ (130bhp TDi) into Elsawin gives two gearbox codes and they are both 6 speed

I actually own a 2003 Octavia 1.9TDi 130PD, ASZ engine, L&K trim.... and it definitely has a 6 speed (plus an extra one for reverse)!!!

If the rear badge reads TDi, then that's a 130bhp car, and should have a 6-speed box. (in an Octavia; Fabias with that engine have a 5-speed).

Cheers guys.

It has a 6 speed.

I got the car.  It's an asz engine same as my fabia vRS and has the early long ratio 6 speed gearbox.

The car is a 2004 where my fabia is a 2005.

Before I use it regular I will be doing the cam belt water pump and stat, aux belt and full service. Last owner used crappy triple qx in it. Only been in the car a month and its black already. Personally hate that ****.

Clean the egr out too and see.

Oh and the brakes are crap! Remind me of the fabia brakes before I put my octavia vRS front and rear on it.

Am on the look out for some vRS but and LCR brembos.

Thinking of making this a derv version of my octavia before I broke her for parts.

Quick rack

TT S3 LCR Hudson

Cast wishbones

Shocks n springs or good coilies(wont be going low)

S3 avus alloys

LCR brembos

Front and Rear ARBs

Remap

We shall see tho.

If you want oil to "stay nice and clean", buy a petrol, and buy cheap oil. The black is a suspension of carbon particles which aren't in the top end.

I dont want clean oil.

I wand good oil and triple Q isnt good.

I found it it ok for a little bit maybe a 1-2k but then the engine starts feeling wierd. I've have used it in the past in a few engines. My old vRS the fabia and my e39 530d.

And tbh quantum oil is cheaper and I've found far superior.

Had a Aug/sept 130 ASZ  54 plate one of the last available , defo 6 speed , and managed to put 245000 miles on it , same clutch , traded it in for a new skoda in 2017 when they had the scappage deal , got £3500 for it , and would have easily done another few years and thousands of miles .
