Mk1 fabia epc light

Featured Replies

So had an issue today lost all power to my car mk1 fabia 1.4 16v engine was still running but would not rev past 1.5 rpm. The epc light and the esp were both on. Anyways after turning the engine off and on a couple of times I put my foot to the floor and then turned it over and it fired in to life and I made it home.

Been looking at similar threads with people with a similar issue found this one on page 3 the fix is explained

https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/after-20-mins-driving-tcs-epc-lights-car-wont-rev-past-2k.203446/page-3

the guy eventually got it sorted by having the main engine connector plug cleaned out and reconnected and taped up for a good fit ?

My Question is where is this plug as 1 hour of scrolling the web and I'm not closer.

Thanks in advance for any help

You need to get the fault codes read, with the 1.4 16V it's more often that limp mode is caused by ignition coil faults.

Will plug it in tomorrow, any chance you know where this plug/connector is should it turn out to be where the fault is ??

Also dont think it was limp mode anthem car had no drive at all was just stuck in idle and when accelerator was applied the rev counter would just jump about

The main plug is on the ECU located on the right side of the bulkhead in the engine bay as you look at it, but it won't be that as I said.

Let us know what the codes say, it sounds like a misfire is shutting down the engine, misfires are usually coil pack related on the 1.4 16V.

Would a misfire/coilpack issue throw an epc and a esp warning light though ??

Also on the thread I listed above he talks about a plug low down somewhere in the engine bay. So I know this wont be the ECU

The thread you list is about an Ibiza Cupra 1.8T, so I'm lost as to why you think it's relevant. Get some fault codes tomorrow and post them here, then we can do more for you.

I have attached a copy of the first scan, however i think as i had to jump start the car it has logged faults with everything.

Fabia scan 08.03.202.txt

and this the second scan after i cleared all of the codes.

Fabia scan 2 08.03.2020.txt

i know whats up with the heated mirrors, but the rest are a miss to me at this point.

Check the alternator output, I suspect it's not charging the battery properly, that's a lot of low voltage alarms after you cleared the codes.

how would i check this ??

With a voltmeter.

Yeah its ran out of batteries will have a go tomorrow, what kind of voltage should I be looking at with engine running ??

  • Author

I also checked for misfires while plugged in and I logged a few from different cylinders but it was intermittent logged a total of 8 before stopping, the idle was juddering aswell. But like I say it soon stopped, any ideas ?? Coil packs spark plugs ?

Fix the charging issue first.

will do what is normal voltage for the battery while engine is running ?? what will i be seeing if the alternator is duff ???

You need to see 14.4V while running otherwise the alternator wiring is likely damaged or the brush pack is dead.

Check the brake servo vacuum hose for splits at the hose-barb connections of the hard plastic sections.

Tested battery tonight 14.4 while running, and around 14 with almost everything turned on in the car.

I'm assuming this means the altenator is working okay but could my battery still be duff, and causing most of the fault codes ??

If so can I check battery with vcds or multimeter to see if it needs replacing ??

Cheers.

Battery should read over 12V before starting the engine in the morning, if it's under then it needs replacing.

Yeah tested before I started and it was at 12v, just dont know what ells could be causing these codes!!

At 12.0V is knackered, a healthy battery would read 12.7V, chances are the voltage is sagging badly during starting causing the codes. I'd replace it.

Will have to check it again as it was slightly above 12. So I should have at least 12.7 when can is off ??

Done this yet? Takes two minutes and is completely free...
