Is the Torque Wrench mandatory for HGF

In the first video at 0:12 I see some evidence of HG failure.

In Skoda Felicia service manual there is no mandatory rule to replace the bolts. In fact they say that you can use the old ones.

Do not expect anything. Measure.

You know, a HG failure can have many ways to manifest.

PS

See those black margins to the left and right of your video? It's because you are filming using the phone vertically. Normally we shoot such people in the face 🙂. You will be amazed how much more information you can capture holding the phone horizontally...

Hahaha, yes ı hate also vertical shoots  :D but sometime you either cant short horizontally or dont put attention to it. In my case it was because there video where aimed to a friend so from phone to phone. But you are correct about it  :)

Concerning the bolts, ı prefer to change them, just in case. Concerning the bent on head gasket, ı didnt say it isnt, just ı didnt expected. Because ı know, if it is bent there is no meaning in changing the HG as it will be problematic again.

Great image, ı will try to give an update about the type of failure. I found a mecanic who will do the head gasket change for a reasonable price.

to me you first need to clean the carb so that the poor car can run and idle
secondly start investingating head gasket, if you dont see oil in water then 95% of cases for these cars its fine.
My felly will sometimes steam due to condensation and it will create some mayo on the cap, though that will go away if you let the car properly warm up

I was not süre previously as you can see in the previous video (bottom 2) nothing can be seen as a HGF however in my last video it is obvious because of the smoke and because 2liter of cooling was missing. I am planing to clean the carb soon hoppefully.

Thank for your help.

If there is a HG failure between cylinder 2 and 3 (very common) then the engine will run rough.

From the videos it looks that the engine runs pretty well at idle when it is cold. Only when it's warm it runs rough.

@Naboula01 How much will you pay for the HG job?

I manage to squeeze a competitive price for the workmanship 300₺.

Plus new gasket 70₺, and 130₺ for the new bolts. Plus if need to the head gasket adjustement between 100₺ to 250₺. Finally Motor Oil and Coolant should be around 80-90 ₺.

So around 800 ₺ which is about 114 €. This doesn't look like much, but for info the minimum salary in Turkey is 2324₺ as for today. So yes it is not expensive compared to Europe but it is still a certain sum of money in Turkey.

You can buy the necessary tools with the money you will pay to the mechanic.

of course with the information you get from here.

I chose to do it myself for both learning and hobby.

I agree and ths is what I was planning to do. But I am using my car daily right now, and I cannot afford to take the bus because of Covid-19 Pandemic. I prefer to pay a little more and be sure to have the car. I know that I can do it, and this is what I was planning last time, but I need to be more carefull now. I should say that I would have loved to do it myself. But right now, I cannot.

:) You are right. (Covid-19😷)

The price is very reasonable.

They want exactly twice the money in Istanbul

Well, I cannot take the risk right now, I would have not been dependent on my car for daily drive I would have done it. But right I prefer to give to a mecanic.

Just I didn't understand by :  "be careful because I don't think Turkey is really citizen health minded".

You mean the government is does not care about citizens health ?

Or that Turkish people don't do healty job (Good workamanship)?

Could you please just detail a little bit.

I think that the government is really making any valiant effort to protect its citizens

To rephrase you : The Turkish Government is not doing anything to protect its citizen right ?

As a Turkish citizen I can say that they do, BUT it is true that more can be done. To be honest with you Turkey's position is quite complicated so putting a quarantine or curfew would be devastating for the economy, on the other hand letting everything loose would make the pandemy worse. They are doing a compromise now.

But to say the government is not doing anything would be false, for exemple on case of denouncement of someone who travelled the government send people if it is true or noti. Then they ytake measure to put the person in quarantine at there home. I can easily say this because I experienced it myself. Also for exemple for people using this epidemic to earn money (ex : stocking or hoarding) there is prison sentence. When they get prrof of a wrondoing they put the person in jail.

So to sum up : the government is doing something, it can do maybe more but they put there citizens life in priority.

Hope it is not a problem going of topic here.

As long as Greece - Turkey relationship improves, it's fine. But remember that you have cars to fix and we have photos to watch from you.

330 € as the minimum salary is not so bad. I presume that an average salary is around 1000 €. By the way, can you tell me which is the biggest Turkish second hand car website ?

The euro and dollar currency has doubled after problems in the U.S. 2018.

"Dollar = 3,5 = 6,5"  "Euro = 4,5 = 7,00

So a little life is hard but not impossible. 😃

I've looked at Skoda Felicia sale price. They are insanely high. Not only for Turkey but for the rest of Europe too.

Car prices in Turkey are very High, due to a very high taxation in the sale of new cars. This impact directly on all used car sales.

The smallest taxation is %160. So a car which cost 10.000€ in import will cost 26.000€ in resale. (+profit) And this is even more for higher displacement up to %400 in +3000cc engine.

2000 euros for the cheapest glxi felly in the country is not bad assuming the car is at perfect condition but from what I've seen cheap cars in Turkey don't fare that well.

2.000 euro for a felicia is quite high compared to other countries. Also 2.000 euro is considered a high price if you take into consideration the average salary. So yes cars in Turkey are expensive. And since you cannot import car from abroad the value of used car market increase every year no matter if they are good or bad. For exemple an average favorit is around 2.000euro right now. You should also keep in mı d that most of there car had an important crash in some point in their lives.

Anyway, the mecanic told me to bring the car on Monday. Will try to give updates about the car itself next week.

Everyone have a great weekend and be safe!

You should take a photo especially if there is head seal damage

modern cars should be discarded if they ever have a major accindent, if the accident damages any of the structual pieces (not fenders hoods bumpers) then the car will NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN

Normally that is true. But there are exceptions. Like this Russian guy that I consider to be an artist. He "feels" the car. Although he has a special jig for body repairs, measuring tools and lasers, the guy is very talented. Here is a sample below. I watched his channel and I was amazed.

ricardo I love arthur also, he is indeed exceptionally talented and know what is possible and what is not,
nevertheless his repairs dont satisfy me in the sense that all this is an unproven method, still they may or may not work.
But I would not put my life at risk, yet again in russia safety standards arent the highest ( given that nivas are still sold ).
Some of his repairs nevermind being uneconomical, here, they would also be demmed outright dangerous.

His methods are no different than any dealer service methods. He is using the same tools, if not better. Yeah, he has no garage uniform and his garage is not pristine...

Dont care bout that,
it is just if I dont see a crash test of such a repaired car i cannot be certain
