New Karoq purchase, some wisdom needed.

Featured Replies

I also have the standard grey alcantara (fake suede) and after a year no marks but I did treat the seats and carpets with  protective spray.

I used "Scotch guard" for the carpets and seat backs and " Colourlock" Waterproofing for leather and Textile for the alcantara seats.

A lot cheaper than the protection offered by the dealer!

would that be this stuff?

How often do you put it on

Yes, that is the stuff.

I treated the seats etc. just after taking delivery only the once. Perhaps it should have another treatment as its been on a year.

I also treated the paintwork to Bilt Hamber wax, even after a year the rain still forms beads.

While we're talking abut seats does the front passenger go completely flat (so you can load things the entire length of the vehicle)

No, it hardly moves at all, a weak point as I have found recently trying to carry Long Case Clocks.

With the optional folding passenger's backrest you can load things 2.60m long.

I didn't see that in options, maybe SE L has it standard?

I see they are still available as an option in Slovenia.

Could it be they are not being made for the left side?

These are the limits in our SEL....

The seats do slide forwards a long way though......

If you're planning on shelling out over £27,000 on a 1.5 TSI DSG SE L, surely £275 for the heated screen isn't going to break the bank?

well it'll be a manual.. It'll also be a motability car, so it'll be a lot less than that (something like £900) but extras are not discounted so as budgets are tight (obviously) that £275 is a step too far (plus you give it back  after 3 years anyway)

I keep reading these forums and every now and again someone will lay down their law, in this case NO HEATED SCREEN. Yet despite that, time and time again folk are telling the OP different - unbelievable!  How many times does he have to say that it's not an option open to him?

May I make a suggestion. All those who say a few quid a month or £275 isn't a large amount - if it's not much to you, why not club together and give the money to the OP?

The heated screen will be required say 20 times a year - it's a 3 year lease, that's 60 times during the car's life with him. That means it will cost the owner nearly £5 every time to defrost the window. ( the front window, he'll still have to scrape the ice off the side windows manually ).

If people went out on a frosty morning and someone offered to clear their windscreen for £5, I'd expect most folk would tell them to pi5s off. ( Or if you were savvy, asked them to pi5s on the frosted windscreen :D ).  Expensive?  I think it's expensive too. I wouldn't give someone 50p to clear my windscreen.

Laying down the law, which thread are you reading?

The OP has said they will spec the heated screen based on requested feedback. You might want to read the thread in full before contributing.

I have to admit, I've used the heated screen on my Kuga about, hmm.... I bet if its 10x a year that would be all it is, it's really not that much, granted Ford include  theirs as standard so it's not a problem, but other makers still charge sadly.

The electric handbrake , is it like Ford's so manually applied, but auto-off when you pull away (Ford call it drive through) or does it also do auto -on every time you pull to stop like other makes do?

The heated windscreen is also really useful in wet weather so not just winter.

I've had my Karoq 4 weeks now it replaced my Yeti (which I loved and still have a soft spot for).  the Krok is like the Yeti but more technical with the Virtual Cockpit which I am still feeling my way around. Mine was a stock model Edition 1.5 petrol DSG however I expected it to have Skoda Connect where you can control items remotely via an iPhone but it had not been specified and it is not particularly obvious so if you want that you will need to specify it.

I don't have the heated screen but i would recommend it if funds allow.  I have the light leather seats and because I where jeans I use a loose cover to sit on to prevent dye transfer.  The heater heats up fairly quick and is quite good. I have heated seats and in my view they are essential.  The reversing camera I find excellent as is the pedestrian sensor and approaching cars when parking.  Mine has Eco, Normal, Sports and user defined driving modes I use eco when around town weather it save juice is too early to say.  (I find it intriguing when the eco kicks in to indicate the engine is running on 2 cylinders.)

Yes the umbrella is there as is the ice scraper and parking ticked clip.

Hope it helps you decide.

I'm finding all this information helpful. What tyres come with the Karoq these days? (My Kuga came with Conti sports) - Which was all great until it snowed, then it was like Bambi on ice :)

@tgo

Will you be ordering the car in the 3rd quarter from the Motability list, so after June?

As it is the SEAT Ateca have been coming in at a lower advance payment than the Skoda Karoq.

It is anyones quess what will be happening advance payment and the MY21 spec come the Summer.

Umm it'll be whatever the 3rd Qrt pricelist says regarding AP. I'm not sure how the Karoq fluctuates, some brands go up and down like yo yo's others stay much the same. If Skoda do their yearly changes to their cars on the Sept plate change it might be higher.

Seats offer absolutely no extras, and the equipment/spec on the Skoda is better.

The parkbrake (there's not much hand about them now!) works much the same as the Ford, it won't apply fully when you stop unless you switch off the engine.

What it does do is when you come to a stop and hold the brakes, the car will use a function similar to hill hold and keep the brakes on until you let the clutch up same as releasing the parkbrake. This shows as active on the dash as the parkbrake light lit up green.

But it doesn't have to come on when you're stopped, it only applies the hold if you push the brake pedal past a certain point. So if you only use them lightly and come to a stop and it doesn't apply, you can just give the pedal a prod to the point where you feel a decent resistance and it will come on.

Going to have to explain that one for me.

Not being able to turn off the heated door mirrors on my Mercedes-Benz sometimes irritates me, when it's raining they dry the mirror, but that means they dry dirty and restrict visibility more than the water beading on them when they're not being heated.

It's a shame the Karoq uses the older design of heated screen (metallic heated strips), the Kodiaq and Superb use a conductive film which does away with the visible elements, but also acts as a reflector to help to keep the interior cool in the summer.

Wonder why that is, isn't a kodiaq just a stretched karoq?
