Be good to know what engine your Octavia has, and what model year it is...

Are any engine lights showing on the instruments?

2016 - Octavia  1.6 disel.
no engine lights

cheers

What mileage has it done?

112 ,000 km.  taxi

Faulty injector done this to my car on start up.

It'd be worth plugging it into a diagnostics reader to see if the car is registering any fault codes.

Checked out today , faulty injector ,  cheers guys

From my past, the pre heating system can also act like this until warm.  My old MB 250D did this accompanied by smoke.  Not sure what your pre heating sys s.

Thanks will ask my guy to check that

Hi,

interesting thread. Harry 62 describes a problem very similar to mine except that my mechanic has done a diagnostics on it a couple of different times and no fault is showing. I find if I start without pressing the accelerate and leave it tick over for about 10 seconds, then drive it gently down the drive, again without using the accelerator I can go off up the road without any 'lumpiness'.  On the other hand if on starting up I rev it, it is for all the world like a petrol engine with one plug burnt out, very rumbly and it takes a while to clear as I drive off. Once I have driven any short distance the problem disappears and doesn't appear again for the rest of the day; it only happens at the first start in the morning and the colder the night has been the most rumblier it is.

My Octavia is 2017, 1.6 l diesel, 81 kW, with about 99,000 km on the clock.

I'd appreciate any suggestions please.

Hi jfly ,   you have described exactly my issue in your post , my mechanic has diagnosed faulty injector , no warning lights on dash though, should there be ?????

It does sound as though the heater element for one cylinder is not coming on.  Either that or maybe the injector is being starved so check the fuel line.

Thanks Harry62 and Oldmansomerse for your suggestions. I'll chat to my mechanic again.

Hi again Harry62 and Oldmansomerset,

Any idea why your suggested possible faults do not show up in the diagnostics when my mechanic runs a check?

The problem seems to persist even though a diagnostics check was run.  In cases like this, you can either get another independent test or use the Mk1 eyeball and look at the problem.  This will probably mean taking out individual injectors and/or the associated heating elements to see if they are functioning.  I tend to think;  look at the elements as once the cylinders get warm, the problem disappears.

Thanks again for your suggestions.
