Collecting a new car in the plague year

Featured Replies

Collected my Kodiaq Edition yesterday. Salesperson totally polite, but she explained that, sorry, Covid-19 etc etc, just sign here, and here, thanks, take this folder, here are your keys, it's parked in the car park, bye!

Total time from stepping into showroom to driving away, 5 minutes (if that).

At least you have a whole load of information and people here on the forum to ask. Isn't there an information button in the ceiling to call Skoda for information on how to use the Kodiaq?

Congrats on picking up your new car, get some photos up!

Just remember the extremely satisfied 5 star survey depends on their wages so be kind where you can. :)

I've already downloaded the owner's manual, which in some sections isn't the best it could be. And indeed, people on this forum have been very helpful and where possible I've tried to contribute as I discover stuff.

No suggestion from the dealership of doing a survey. Given my experience of them, not entirely sure they'll follow up - they suspect I might be brutally honest!

Would be interested to see how other dealers are doing the handover in this, our Plague Year.

Also try downloading the MySkoda app that has a shortened manual on and you can see your car details and online service record, or even the Skoda Connect app and you’ll probably still be setting it up by the time Covid-19 has passed....

Download a previous one for late 2019 build cars, the new owners manual is a bit crap

Rainworth ŠKODA - Mansfield was thinking about friends and family.

** A message for our local customers in the Mansfield area **

Without our customers we would not have a business and we feel strongly about the community spirit.

If any of our customers or people they know are struggling and would like essential supplies fetching and delivering. Please send us a message and we will be happy to help.

Hopefully this challenging situation won't last too long but whilst it does we want to ensure that particularly the most vulnerable in the community get the essentials.

Some dealers are better than others.

Full marks to the OP’s dealer, really.  So much better than the alternatives of (a) closing down and not providing the car, or (b) increasing the time and therefore increasing the risk that the customer might catch something that the staff didn’t know they'd got (and vice versa).

If there are questions, the purchaser could always ring the dealer up and ask?

Sounds like the perfect handover to me.

That would suit me down to the ground, normally manage to get in and out in 10 mins when I collect a new car, luckily been dealing with the same garage for over 20yrs and 11 Skoda's so all is good and it's a case of sign here and here are the keys.

I had the same today, car was delivered here are some keys sign this paperwork any problems or questions give us a call.

It’s the new reality - and we should welcome it.

My last one - current car - turned out to have some features not working, so I'll be carrying a checklist to actually ensure that all extras are present and correct.

Plus tyre pressures not still sitting at almost 50 psi transit settings (wife's car).

I don't mind skipping any salesperson spiel as the job is done.  No one sold me a car.  I simply bought one.

I don't think I have any more papers to sign.

Washed the old banger today and am splashing a few litres of fuel in occasionally to see me out.

Roll on the 31st.

Can't complain about the handover process at all. Went to the car, checked it over as carefully as I could (it was pouring with rain) made sure the options I'd ordered were actually fitted, fired it up, drove home. I'm hoping that I don't have to see the dealer until the service is due. Indeed, in this area at least, taking your car to the Skoda dealer is an adventure in itself - they all seem to be desperately short of space, and require a heroic manoeuvre to park sensibly and/or reach the service bay.

Same day, went to my local tyre dealer to get all-season tyres fitted on smaller rims I'd bought (and to 'hotel' the factory-fit wheels/tyres). I didn't need to 'socially-distance' myself: no other customers, glum faces all round, as he explained "many tyre factories are shut, and people aren't buying tyres anyway because they don't think they'll be driving much in the foreseeable future."

While it would sense that prices would decline, I wonder if the longer delivery time/shortage of parts helps maintain new-car prices?

I'm now claiming the fastest handover award 😀

This morning I hadn't even got out of bed when the dealer service man phoned me to confirm my current Bear would not be getting it's MOT today - ready for collection on 3 April.

A few minutes later (still in bed) my salesman called so say that he was bringing forward my new car registration from 31 March to TODAY. And he'll deliver to my door. Wow!

1024h another phone call - I'm leaving in 5 minutes.

1105h he's parked the new car on my drive and handed me a bunch of keys.  See you later pal. 2 minute handover.

I hope the bunch of keys is not just for your car but the Dealerships gate and door and you can now go and help your self to anything you want over the next 3 weeks while they are closed.

Unfortunately no moonlight extra add ons.

But to be fair, the salesman pointed out that the promised FOC mudflaps are missing from the rear and will be fitted at a later date.

And I found a bonus in the shape of new rubber mats front and rear (extras) that have never been mentioned.  I was going to transfer over my old ones as they cost me a fortune in 2017.

Anyway, my good lady has handed me the cleaning stuff to go and give the big Red Bear a wipe down.

Still don't think I'll be going far in the near future.  Will keep my miles down  😂

Do you still have your previous Kodiaq or did the salesman drive away in that?

A PCH salesman has even less to do with a used car than a “normal” salesperson.

Selling and disposing of lease cars are 2 separate business processes.

Today’s e-m from BCA says they will not be collecting vehicles for at least 3 weeks. So the outgoing Bear is stuck on my drive.

I’ve written to  BCA and said it can sit as long as they like - BUT the MOT and Tax will expire soon and will not be dealt with by me and it will NOT be insured by me in any shape or form.  I’ll be switching from A to B as soon as I can talk to my present insurer.

The old car is now BCA’s problem. And my new garden ornament. Maybe I’ll stick a wee gnome on it.
