Vrs oil

Featured Replies

So had my  11 plate vrs now nearly 10 months.the garage I bought from ( non Skoda) serviced car so don't know what oil was in.i know about the oil issues and mine uses a little so was topping up now and then with mobil 5 w 30 so the question is drain oil and start again at next service or can I top up with 5 w30 but different brand looking for something a bit cheaper thanks for any reply

It’s probably best to give it fresh oil every 12 months rather than topping up every time.
I’ve started using 5w40 for the past year as it’s cheaper but still stick to the expensive brand, that’s my own personal choice though.

Change the oil so that you can change the oil filter.

No need for 5w 30 FS Long life oil if doing a fixed service interval.  Maybe best not to long interval service / oil changes & use VW 504 so 5w 30 FS if you want a long lived Twincharger.

If you start using 5w 40 FS to VW 502 then IMO the price of it makes no difference, be it from Costco, Asda, Tesco, LIDL or Home Bargains.

It will be as good as if the label on the container says, Quantum, Fuch, Castol, Mobile or what ever in a 1.4 TSI / TFSI.

I would buy 5w 40 FS even if it cost more than 5w 30 FS III,

As i would still buy Tesco Momentum 99 if it was the same price or even more expensive than Shell V-Power Nitro +.

Thanks for the replys i just need to top up a little until I can get round to getting the proper service from a vag specialist the last service I've got paper work for was July 18 5w30 + filter was done as said in first post garage said serviced (don't know) sorry for the ignorance but what is vw504/vw502

The spec needed for Long Interval servicing / flexible / variable will have VW 504 / 507 on it if the correct 5w 30 Full Synthetic Long Life.

Main dealers that for Fixed or Variable Servicing.

(TDI's must use 507 for fixed or variable servicing.)

You Can use VW 502 for Fixed servicing on a TSI and it will likely be 5w 40 FS.

Ah that makes a bit more sense thanks again

Only ever used 5w30 without faults so never looked back, Oil & filter change in these are a piece of ****!

@Mickmartin

Since the failure rate in the 1,800 CAVE Fabia in the UK has been around 1 in 5, or now at 1 in 4 then many maybe can say the same.

Then the percentage of CTHE failures maybe less than 20% of the 1,100 cars.

So many have got on just fine with Long Life oil and Super Unleaded, while plenty have not got on very well.

There is really no downside using VW502 and doing Fixed Service Intervals.

Maybe if VW had not recommended Long Life Oil for 'Twinchargers' and not changed the Service Code to allow Variable Servicing with them there might not have been so many replacement engines required, then replacement engines still going wrong.

As it is people can use VW504/507 if they want and good luck to them. If they have a good engine and not a lemon they are in the majority or Twincharger owners.

Surprised "CAKE" is deemed a naughty word unless we are watching our calories.:tongueout:

Some 1.4 TSI / TFSI 132kw Euro 5 engines are as if they are made of Chocolate.
