Hi Everyone,

 

lately my vRS developed a new strange noise. It sounds like it is actually coming from the clock spring behind the steering wheel. Funny thing is I heard it for the first the 3 weeks ago when the temperature went over 10 celsius. Drove it that morning there was no noise whatsoever. Then when I drove it in the afternoon and parked it up at my mate’s house there was this clicking creaky sound from the steering. You can’t really hear it while driving, unless doing 90 degree turns. 

so they after this incident it was cooler. The noise went away. Completely. Today I drove my wife to the shop no noise. An hour later the air got 2-3 celsius hotter the noise was present.

Everything works on the car, I have no errors nothing. It is under warranty, but currently all the dealerships seem to have closed their doors. Anyone with a similar issue?

Have a look at where the steering column goes through grommet/bulkhead.

 

There was a similar sound in my wife’s Smart after we got I back from a service...they’d managed to push the carpet/grommet slightly when replacing the pollen filter so it was at a tight angle; a little bit of jiggling sorted it out!

Interestingly, it sounded like the noise was coming from inside the shroud where the indicator stalks are when driving!

Thanks, I will have a look. I hoovered it just before the creaking started, I might have moved something?🤣

So I drove the car today...dead silent, This is the worst sort of issue, even if I took it to a dealer they would say it is okay sir. :)

Me again, so this bloody noise is back again. Started the car today, there was no noise for the first 5 miles. Then in started creaking. If it was the steering rack would it creak all the time? I am adamant the noise is coming from behind the steering wheel though. I have looked at grommets/etc but nothing at all.

Although I am a key worker I do not want to bother the dealers with this, but I worry something will go wrong with it.

did you solve the problem and mine does something similar?

May not be your problem but many mk2 fabias around 2013 developed creaky sticky steering when slow manoeuvring and performing full turns. This was down to faulty steering (aka track) rods,  the ball joints at the steering rack end had been filled with the wrong kind of grease which dried out and they rusted. More noticeable when hot and dry. Track rods replaced under warranty and TSB. Don't have access to the TSB, Skoda keep these secret.

Ja opet, pa se ova krvava buka opet vratila. Upalio sam automobil danas, prvih 5 kilometara nije bilo buke. Tada je in počeo škripati. Da je to upravljač, bi li cijelo vrijeme škripao? Uvjeren sam da buka dolazi iza upravljača. Pogledao sam grommets/etc ali baš ništa.

Iako sam ključni radnik, ne želim s time gnjaviti trgovce, ali brinem se da će s tim nešto krenuti naopako.

I hope you told them its their job to find the cause and fix it. Otherwise known as a warranty claim.

 

Get it in writing that you made a complaint so its registered by Skoda as a fault reported in the warranty period. Then try another authorised dealer who knows what they are doing.

I looked at Skoda erWin they don't have a problem like this ... but I found that they swindle me for the touch screen sw ... which I have occasional problems with.😀
