Low frequency noise in new karoq

Featured Replies

Hello

Just purchased a karoq with 4000 km on it.

I have been ler down by only one thing, the noise coming from the back of the car when drivning on gravel road or uneven tarmac.

It is almost deafening when drivning around 50 kph on The gravel roads but less so when drivning on tarmac, is anyone rlse having this issue?

Sorry for The english, not my native language :)

What make of tyres are fitted.  My 1.5 SEL has Turanza's and on motorways etc. if there is any rippling of the surface they are very noisy, a low frequency type of booming. But on good surface roads they are OK.

Others on here have changed the make of tyre and had a quieter ride.

Yup my car also has Turanza fitted. I tried another brand of tires i had here at home but the exact same problem occured.

You are right about the roads surface, on even roads they are great! The problem to me is i am frequently traveling on gravel roads so the problem is kind of big.

I will try to change tires to my wintertires and see if a 3rd pair will do the trick, otherwise i may have to reconsider over this vehicle.
Its a shame because i like everything about it except this annoying low frequency booming. I also dont know if i find it more annoying than others but to me this is should be a big issue for all the owners.

You mentioned changing the tyres - were these the same size and fitted to all four wheels?

Sawtoothing of tyres can be an issue with some VAG independent rear suspension cars but probably not with a car that has only done 4000miles

I mentioned about 4x4 as this can be relevant for tyre size front to rear etc - clearly if fwd this is not an issue.

Ah i see. I fitted them to att 4 wheels. The same size tires but different rims, the ones i tried to fit area bit louder than The turanza so maybe it wasnt a good choice but i no others at the time. Next test will be with the winter tyres.

I have just bought a 2yr old Karoq 1.0 on 16" wheels. Same issue. I've seen other threads complaining of the same problem. My car also had the Bridgestone turanza's.... I plan to speak to the Skoda sales manager. See what he says. I doubt he will be off much help though. I find the resonance most annoying.

Whilst im only new here i have heard that the Bridgestone tyres do generate some noise. For what its worth my current vehicle which isn't a Skoda uses Yokohama tyres and they too generate noise on different road surfaces.

Does anyone know if sound deadening would help negate or lower the road noise coming into the cabin ?

This has also been discussed here:

Road Noise - Skoda Karoq - BRISKODA

But the consensus seems to be that while adding soundproofing can help, a full job requires it being fitted between the floor linings and the metal panels.

However if it's mainly coming from the boot, then it is easier to add soundproofing in this area.

Thanks for your input gents. I can't help thinking that this is not good enough from skoda. I tend to think it might be as one other person said, it's transference of noise from the suspension into the cabin. I'm going to approach the Skoda dealer about this (after lockdown) and maybe demo another Karoq to compare. My car has the not so low profile 16" wheels so I thought that alone might help with the noise. When I test drove the car it didn't have a spare wheel but when I took delivery they had changed the foam insertion kit for a full size spare. This really surprised me as I hadn't asked for it. I'm going to see if there's a difference with the wheel removed as I can't remember the noise when I did the test drive. The conundrum continues!
