IMPORTANT Warranty issues on new VRS and underhanded behaviour.

Featured Replies

It is actually first-hand experience though maybe that's not particularly obvious from that post...as I recall it, the individual in question managed to trigger the warning light, when connected to VAG COM it gave the error message described (including the warranty void bit), but as a fault code it can be cleared.

This fault code only occurs on cable throttle 1.8T's that have had the rev limiter raised using a remap AFAIK. Also worth noting is the fact that the 'Warranty Void' comment was added into VAGcom as a joke by Uwe and is actually followed by a winking smiley.

This doesn't happen on newer DBW cars though as the remap also raises the engine speed exceeded freshold.

  • Surely most people on any manner of forum websites say all manner of things, some of them true, some of them not. I'm sure if you went to the trading standards in your area and told them that a multi

I think my point is still valid though, and if anyone has personal proof that there warranty has been voided due to excessive rpm then I'd be interested to know. The post you point too doesnt give any first hand experience, just an opinion.

I was that man. :)

I had it happen at the Ring in my RS - I was trying different approaches at Breidscheid, change from 2nd to 3rd, then back down to 2nd 150 yds later or keep it on the limiter in second. I got a warning light come on doing the latter. When I finished the lap, having suffered no degredation in performance, I plugged VAG-COM in to see what the error was. That is when I got the "Maximum engine revs exceeded - WARRANTY VOID"; can't remember what the error code number was. Told my dealer about it and he looked it up as it was one he hadn't seen before, he thought it was funny! I cleared the code and nothing more ever came of it. Kicks in after about 8-10 seconds of sitting on the limiter. As for the point about doing it down the autobahn, I don't know of many Octys that will "cruise" at 170+ :D

Eddy, mine was DBW so not sure how I got it

If the car was remapped then prehaps it was one of the tuners early maps that didn't raise the threshold. I believe this was the case on a few early AMD maps but not heard of it with any other tuner.

However just about every remapped non-DBW 1.8T has this fault code on the ECU.

Mine was a late map with the physical limiter raised to 7500 :D

If your map has an increased rev limit it doesnt mean you've ever got there! My remap raised the limit slightly and I've not once hit it - and have no fault codes logged.

SURELY THIS THREAD HAS RUN IT'S COURSE BY NOW? PEOPLE ARE JUST GOING ROUND IN CIRCLES RATHER THAN READING THE PREVIOUS PAGES.

Very strange, was it a serial port remap or replacement chip? I've never seen this code on a car with a serial port remap even with the limiter set as high as 8krpm.

Serial port :D

Ah well, not to worry, got the diesel now :)

Anyway, back to Shifty and his amazing disappearing warranty........

I think I have made my point. As has been said, this is just going around in circles now.

Mods, you can close the thread if you wish.

Your wish is our command :)
