IMPORTANT Warranty issues on new VRS and underhanded behaviour.

Featured Replies

Admittedly it's a subjective thing...however' date=' if you look at Seat - even on their Arosas they used to have a sticker about doing Formula 2 or something. On Skodas you don't see much (any?) mention of WRC.

Then on the otherhand the website as a motorsport tab and proclaims/shouts about the octy being 2006 best hot-hatch. So regardless of how they are percieved by GP is it how they want to be percieved?

I believe this to be underhand:-

Surely the onus is on Shifty to prove his vehicle is not modified - which lets face it he cant.

Given that his car had a new turbo with v low miles on the clock I can see why SUK would act quickly to make sure a repeat was avoided (i am not saying his car was modified when orig unit failed - i have no idea having never seen it) Yes of course he will feel aggrieved. Yes life isnt fair. Yes others may have got away with it in the past. (Not me - i paid for everything ever done to my car)

I'm a wee bit young for that lad :)

I've always taken the attitude with cars I have had that they stay 100% stock until the warenty is out then look at it and I have never bothered before on my cars.

The thing that bothers me is that I could post to any forum with an image of any car, the smtp protocl used for e-mail isn't secure and most people with a telnet session and half an hour to read an RFC could send skoda an e-mail addressed to skoda from skoda. My point is that it worries me that the web is taken so seriously.

I think a better route would have been to arrange for the dealer to look over the car and assess it next time it was in or to send a note to the guy via the dealer stating they have reason to believe the car is moddified and while they are currently taking no action they wish to have a dealer inspect the car and reserve the right to refuse claims against modified parts.

Quite possibly...if so, having a tab on their website for motorsport and not offering approved performance enhancements don't seem to be the best way of promoting this perception...

Rob.

For what it's worth I can see both sides. However, instead of contacting the owner directly and let's be honest give them the opportunity to return the car to std (if it's modified) why didn't Skoda UK just log the reg number / chassis number?

As far as my knowledge goes on such matters the dealer needs authorisation for certain waranty claims so wouldn't this be the opportunity to then refuse to honour it. If no warranty claim then no problem.

As an illustrious member once said 'if you don't want to pay then don't play'. Right I'm off to extract 5000 bhp out of my Octavia and then claim for a loads of new bits on warranty...... Oh hang on a sec my warranty has expired - bugger!!!

Someone posted this on my site and thought that I would have a looky ... not good to read that Skoda UK seem to be doing this on here especially after everyones efforts ...

I speak to and liaise with SEAT UK every week and this has never come up even though I know that Customer Care review all the posts ....

Hope you get sorted

Why do you say he can't, in one of his posts he says he will let dealer have his car at his conveniance? Guilty untill prooved innocent? :bowdown1: :sofahide: not wanting to upset a mod

100 % sensible and stated in a way not to upset anyone.

Guilty untill prooved innocent?

While this isn't the way our legal system is supposed to work, there is nothing which prevents manufacturers from operating in this way...

SEAT have a great relationship with the internet forums' date=' both yourselves and SCN. Skoda could well learn from this I think.

Take this pic for example.

I have a great relationship with my local dealer. They're not fools & I don't treat them like fools.

It's just a shame that Skoda UK have to do such things in a devious manner.

Well said:thumbup:

Shifty, Skoda are not having a go at you, they are just ensuring the Dealer is acting the way they would expect them to under the Franchise agreement.

Thats why they communicated with the Dealer, thats why they claimed money back from the Dealer.

I think in laymans terms the Dealer has had his ar5e kicked.

And he was kind enough, you being a good customer to let you know whats going on

I've always taken the attitude with cars I have had that they stay 100% stock until the warenty is out

I think this is the approach I will also take now I've read this thread.

Not been an issue for me in the past as all the cars I've owned to-date in the UK have been over 5 years old when I bought them anyway.

@ Shifty - sorry to hear you're in this unenviable situation, and having to 'prove your innocence'.

What a pain in the butt.

I wish you all the best and hope the situation gets resolved to your satisfaction.

There is something to be said for owning an older car that owes nothing and its worth next to nothing....lol

So has this been the fastest growing thread in the history of BriSkoda?

6 pages in 3 hours:eek: 7 pages now!

Today, I was contacted by my dealer regarding my warranty.

So what?, you may say.

He proceeded to tell me that Skoda Technical had telephoned him today, to say that due to the nature and content of my posts on Briskoda, they believe my car to be modified, and have issued a block on any warranty claims concerning my ecu, and related parts, etc etc etc........

Who have you upset Shifty? was it a bad pie or have you burnt someone off who took it too seriously?:D

In the same vein but from a different angle; does this mean that if you have "modified" your car by fitting non Skoda ice and phone kit, that it too is no longer covered by warranty?

Come on Skoda, you want your cake and eat it by the sound of things.

The Briskoda forum generally does you nothing but good. It provides excellent R & D for you at no cost, and shouts loud and proud about the excellent product, which is totally free advertising, the members even tell you how to fix problem faults that you are struggling with.

Now I understand that there are cost issues involved but as such a small percentage of the forum (and by default Skoda buyers) actually modify their cars whilst in warranty I would be inclined to think that the benefits far outway the costs.

I think that a little goodwill here might go a long way as the potential for lost revenue (Sales, Service and Parts) is enormous.

As for your Spy, If you intend to monitor the site why not do it in an open and honest manner?

Last but not least if Skoda as a company are unhappy about unofficial modifications for what are essentially being touted by the company as the the practical "Go Faster" models, why not introduce Factory backed performance enhancing products of your own?

If the cost is an issue pick one or two companies to be the recognised performance goods suppliers along the same lines as Mercedes with AMG or Brabus.

Rant over!

Shifty I hope you get this resolved in a satisfactory manner a.s.a.p all the best!

I think they could learn but I know its taken me four years to get a relationship with most departments of SEAT UK ... this is where sites and manufaturers need to try and work together ... why Skoda UK would do this I do not know ...

Quite happy to keep my 5+ year old one going, and its worth next to nothing too. :D (owes a lot though :()

Hope all get's sorted Dave. I'm sure you understand the implications of modding/warranty like the rest of us, and I'm a little miffed at the way this has happened - First time I believe, as I can't remember anything similar ever before.

Would have been better to have been written to, to come for the test - then imply whatever they liked following seeing the car. :)

Definately agree re the older car, although if you need to do a 60 mile scoot every day there can be something said for a newer car as the m27 is a nightmare for accidents.

My old BX diesel estate cost me £5 for a second hand seat catch to pass the MOT and everything else was just fine :) An oil change was £15 using millers XFD semi synth plus a new filter, air filter was £6 and a brake fluid change was well a stering and suspension fluid change too with the joy of LHM :)

Lower total cost of ownership is one of the reasons I'm looking around at prices to do a new car vs tweaking the older car once the 3 years is up comparison.

Hope is all gets sorted in an amicable way Shifty, I can't believe anyone takes a website as truth, it's a bit mad unless you know the people involved. Can I ask have they just excluded ECU etc or the whole car?

Skoda havent given me an opperunity to do anything. As far as i am aware' date=' my dealer telephoned out of courtesy, on a friendly basis. Not to inform me as a customer. As far as I know, they were not instructed to call me.

As for digging up posts, yup, cheers.

In that particular one, it doesnt say my car has "been" mapped, only i was enquiring, and gathering information.

If based on that post, "its clear to you that my car has been modified", then I will have to tar you with the "shallow and narrow minded" brush, such as the folks who speculate that because a male and a female are seen together more than once, they are sha66ing.

In fact, your whole post seems to be shovelling **** in my direction.

Any issues?[/quote']

I take it if you had actually remapped the car and mentioned it on here you would be ok with Skoda contacting you to advise you that your warranty had been voided in some way. What i mean is if you want to remap your car anyway then why worry.

Skoda havent contacted me

Did you read the first post properly?

This is sort of "off topic" but why don't skoda just offer a remap as an option like subaru and charge a lot more for it (ie £1000) to cover for any additional warrenty work that they may incur (rather than the cloak and dagger approach) . The new audi s3 is coming out with 280bhp out of the 2L fsi so the engine should be good for that amount of power.

Another thought I've had is how many of skoda's problems have been sorted out by reading posts from some of the more technically minded people amongst our ranks and then issued as technical bulletins ?

These are just a few ideas I've had and if MR Skoda is watching MY 4 x 4 estate reg F0 0LS has been modified as I have a nice pine air freshner and a pair of fluffy dice (thats not saying anything about the supercharged V8 lump i've shoe horned under the bonnet)

It wouldnt be in VAG's interest for Skoda to offer a remap on the VRS. Why would they want even more customers choosing the cheaper Octavia over the Golf? The extra power would make it a far more attractive option to those who see the badge as an issue.

But SEAT offer a "remapped" version of their range, & they are in the VW Group.
