I am looking to get my alloys refurbished but unsure what the difference between powder coated and painted are and the benefit of either

To @Richardhaddock - There is some opinions, that powder coated alloy wheels get more fragile (because get very hot in furnace). If it is a real fact - it is not good and dangerous too. With painted option (without hot furnace) - there is no problems. I like powder coated technology but I know a little for it. From more than 10 years now, I use one set of 15 inch alloy wheels that I give to get powder coated. The tyres are high profile and I have no problems with road holes. Now I used 18 inch alloy wheels set and I give it again to be powder coated. The tyres now are a low profile and last time in one tyres servica I was told that one alloy wheel has a little curve. I am a Driver from more than 20 years and I do love my Cars. Whit this set of alloy wheels I fall in two road holes but if this curve is a result from this two road holes I will accept that the powder coated technology really make alloy wheels very, very easy to be deformed 😞

The 18" alloys used on the Superb 2 are known for being easy to buckle straight from the factory. The temperatures used in curing powder coatings are a good deal below those used in heat treatment of aluminium. The only process that uses similar temperatures is aging of some alloys following solution heat treatment, and this process is used to increase the strength of the alloy. I wouldn't blame the powder coating for your alloys bending.

I hope so. Unfortunately I live in Bulgaria, where the roads are awful. Now I pump the tyres to 2.6 Bars but the comfort get worsened..

Your original alloys are Diamond cut and painted

Expensive to get done but when they are done correctly looks like a brand new wheel as the face of the wheel is fully recut
I would go to an alloy specialist and get them to show you the difference 

You wont get 2 colours by powder coating🤔

When i had my tyres off I used a big file to get rid of high spots from kerb damage and filled the rest with GTpro Alumetal filler 

masked of painted bits and hit it with alloy silver

Powder coating is more durable than paint but you are much more limited in colour choice.

 

If you like your wheels silver, and shiny is has to be paint.

 

The L&K Sirius alloys, as already mentioned are diamond cut / polished, unless you really, really like the two-tone then get them fully painted without the diamond cut.

 

If done properly and kept away from kerbs they'll outlast the car.

 

I can see you're based in Middlesbrough, I can thoroughly recommend SEM Alloys on the Southwick industrial estate in Sunderland.

lacquered after the grey reveals paint to be precise (not being a pedant) important distinction because diamond cut sirius wheels like yours sparkle on each cylindrical cut in the sunshine, simply sprayed silver and possibly lacquered will still look good but not like they were as new.

I haven't put my sirius back on for two years now and they never will go on again either, sick of replacing tyres and I bought two complete new wheels too when they got scuffed.

Its just a losing battle with the state of our roads and a complete money pit. Even if you dont lose a tyre due to a pothole the amount of tread on the 18s is too small and doesn't last.

Keeping my steel 16" with cheap wheel trims on from now on.

I really should sell the six sirius 

I have made a decision I have brought a new different set of alloys so I have my sirius alloys up for salesman,  what do you think I can get for my old alloys all 4 do need refurbished.

Car is 8 years old and mine sparkle in the sun just like new. Mind you they are only three years old😄and are my third set as they were replaced under warranty.

new ones can be bought for approx £180, refurb will cost approx 80-100 but will not be re laser cut at that price

I have a set of 18" Sirius, and along with everyone else I have curbed them. When I originally bought the car and damaged the wheels I bought two replacements from Skoda Parts.

 

Since then I have had them powder coated with a light "Shadow Chrome" finish.  This looks very much like a chrome finish and the overall appearance is excellent, and very close to the original.

I have brought a new set of alloys, so will have a set of 18" sirius alloys for sale for £250 if anyone is interested 

Might be worth paying the £12 and joining FREEDOM so that you can advertise them on here in the classifieds section?

They look great, they just need finishing off now with the wheel bolt caps...

 

I did buy some chrome covers, but as people say "you get what you pay for" and they were rubbish.

 

Still looking .....

Just go genuine, plenty online and not silly money either.
