Luke’s neglected Fabia Vrs

This came today so can probably get the bars on at some point. Struggling to find replacement feet for the 3003 fitting kit though had ordered the wrong replacements so they are returned the search continues. 🙄

was also having a look through the history of the car and still have the original print out from when one of the previous owners got it mapped from jabbasport. Still absolutely chucking it down here, major downside to not having shelter to do work.

Well after a bit digging there apparently you don’t have rubber feet for the 3003 kit so that saves me hassle 😂 once this dreary rain goes away I’ll get the bars on.

A few years ago I left the fabia parked up outside a train station with the face on the aftermarket unit on, I honestly didn’t think anyone stole radios anymore. The inevitable happened and the car got tanned for it. ive been using the standard since.
future plans for the time being as I think I’m buying a new bike tomorrow is to tidy the rest of the body panels up, but get replacement front bumper and boot lid. New interior, head unit and updated front speakers.

I can’t stop looking at coil overs front mount and turbo however which is troubling..

If it is small patches it will be easier than that mess I had to sort out mate plus I’ve seen what else you’ve done on your build reckon you’ll manage no bother 💪🏻 Happy to offer my process if you did decide.

Cheers fella. Gonna leave it until I’m back at work and have access to some things I need. Reckon I’ll be alright too :)

time will tell how well mine holds up when they start putting salt back down 🥵 I also had to remove some of the factory stone chip to get to some rust spots and have only painted those areas fingers crossed it can cope if not will need to redo if stones break through the repair.

Then here comes the big finale! Since we finally have some sun here in Scotland tonight was the perfect day for it. Got some light coats of colour on, followed by a listing of lacquer and then ultimately a very thick coat as much as you dare without runs occurring as below.

Hi Luke, looks very tidy, I have the same issues with my fabia cills although they don't on the surface look as bad as yours did, never sprayed car body work before  but am thinking of finally having a go after seeing your efforts.

first get a rear anti roll bar if you don't have one. reduces understeer massively

Yeah i only replaced all the shocks last year so I’ll prob wait till some need replaced again before going coils I reckon but rear ARB is in the plans.

The car still pulls to the left slightly after doing the bushes and alignment, not sure what the cause is I did have the subframe off so maybe slight misalignment?

Thanks mate, you should it’s not as hard as it is. Whether it lasts is another question but if I keep on top of cleaning etc no reason it shouldn’t happy to help if you do decide to tackle it yourself! 👍🏻

Well got the roof bars on today they were actually the longer 127 opposed to 108 so the grinder had to come out to notch the actual runners 😂 but they are on and il pretty happy.

i also purchased my new bike which actually cost most than I paid for my fabia 😬 so any other upgrades will be waiting for the time being.

I know you are all waiting with bated breath so I’ll put you out your misery! 🥴😂

Now I used a different high build primer and lacquer for this one and was worried after looking at the final result I had to do a lot more flattening than the passenger side but I think I’ve achieved a reasonable finish in the end after some polishing. I’ll be honest I half arsed the bottom of the wing because those are easily replaced 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ive still got the two bits where the quarter meets the rear bumper to sort now but those can wait. Should only take a couple days to do both weather permitting!

Next up is new interior though, just anything that’s not those horrible standards will do. and just maybe some driving comforts for long miles as I plan on travelling all over he uk this year to go biking fingers crossed!

Hi Luke, still not sorted my sills as yet, what make was the high build primer you mentioned, the top coat and the body filler/hardener, also what grade wet/dry paper to use, also is that a tub of cleaning fluid or something?

Cheers

Hi Martin,

The first sill I done was paints 4 u own can which was okay but went on a little thin. Second one I used was upol and found that to be better. Colour I used paints 4 u and the paint match was great can get made up cans directly on eBay for v reasonable price if a paint shop isn’t close by to mix for you. Filler I used upol David’s isopon p38 I think it was I’ve still some left in one can doing both sills. Easy to use and come with instructions.

to get it down to the metal I used a 60 grit flap disc on the grinder then filled with filler. Used then 80 to get bulk of filler down then 120 through to 500 before primer goes on. Once it’s primered I wet sanded it with 800 all over including existing paint to blow it in. If you are not happy with primer re do I done this a couple times. Paint and then lacquer I used best part of whole can of lacquer to get it shining. One sill I didn’t have to flatten at all but last one I flattened with 2000 wet then polished and it’s been fine since. Hope that helps!

Martin I meant to say that little bottle is panel wipe and is essential to ensure you don’t get any silicone marks in the paint and cleans off all grime before coats. Also mind use rust converter once sanded down. I used bilit hydrate 80 which was good
