Will there be dBa levels set for tyre noise /road surface contact going forward?

@vrskeith

That has been the EU plan for many years, the DVSA did pilot testing of Motor Bikes about a decade back and checking aftermarket exhausts etc,

the figures are all there on the vehicles as standard from the factory, and EU Commissioners have been unhappy at laz UK MOT's and allowance for modifying cars.  They want OBD plugging in and checks on Factory and at testing figures.

But then the UK has left the EU and they will not be able to dictate what vehicles in the UK are doing, but then they could be bolshie with UK vehicles once they cross the channel.

That would be quite ironic if Germany was to be doing that though considering some of their manufacturers vehicles on UK roads.

There have been overall drive-by noise limits for over 30 years, the sports car manufacturer I used to work for took their new models to a track in Belgium that had a special low noise surface in order to pass the drive-by noise limits.

Bad news with Aston today after McLaren's a few days ago.

I will miss their symphonies.

@PetrolDave you mean they cheated the tests??????? shock horror....

In spirit yes, but legally no - since passing them in one EU country was enough to get Type Approval.
