Model Year 21 Changes

UPDATE: MY21 cars will be built from BW33 onwards.

 

Just received news about the upcoming model year change. I have no proper confirmation, however down the grapevine, people who work for Skoda in some markets have divulged some information:

 

•    190PS/140kW TDI new replaced with 200PS/147kW TDI engine
•    New 180kW TSI engine available (Update: Will be replacing the 176kW 2.0 BiTDI - end of production BW48)
•    New steering wheel from Octavia with capacitive hand detection

•    MIB 3 infotainment, which entails the following:

• USB C replaces USB A
• No more DVD/CD slot, SD slots
• Online functionality via eSIM (built in)

•    KESSY sensors for all 4 doors
•    Ventilation and seat depth adjustment available for RS/Sportline
•    Sleep Package temporarily removed (due to supply constraints)

•    ACC now only 210kph instead of 160/210

•    Update: Predictive Cruise Control + multi-lane Emergency Assist available

•    Update: Media Control not available

•    Update: Beige interior for textile and Suedia upholstery not available

•    Update: Optional USB Type C socket in rear view mirror cover now available

 

Here are some leaked images from Skoda of the new interior - main change is steering wheel. Last one is the Sportline, but that's the steering wheel expected to be used in the Sportline and RS. Skoda CZ should be releasing MY21 specification and price list next week.

Yup, it better be seeing that there’s no SD card slots.

Basically stops the car from beeping at you if you're using lane assist on a straight road by using capacitive sensors on the steering wheel instead of waiting for steering input.

Skoda images are not leaked by factory insiders.   Year after year and model face lift after facelift.

 

They are sent out by Skoda Media team to go on Social Media / forums.  That is their actual job.

Thanks for answer. Are there any rumors/leaks when do they plan Kodiaq facelift and what will be changed (expect for the Matrix LEDs and the price)?

It'll be unveiled early 2021, expect changes to be similar to Superb facelift.

Update: the Kodiaq RS TDI engine will 100% be replaced by a 245PS petrol engine. Whether it's the Octavia RS' pure ICE engine (Skoda are wanting to keep the Kodiaq RS 4x4) or use the Tarraco FR PHEV setup which consists of the 1.4 150PS TSI engine with a 114PS electric motor and 13 kWh battery pack cannot be confirmed at the moment.

That`s sad.

Means Kodiaq will be my last Skoda. Towing a lot and nothing replaces here fair amount of cubic centimeters fuelled by diesel.

Few years until the lease end, probably next car will be Q5 or Q7 then.

Diesel is dead,

 

If you need torque and petrol doesn't offer you enough it'll have to be electric.

 

If you're towing buy the Kodiaq at the end of the lease and keep it long enough to allow electric battery ranges to improve.

Electricity in no option for me. Longest day trip 1050 km, usually 500 - 600 km.

Annual mileage 80 000 km, so petrol will be very expensive option.

Not sure what fuel prices are like in Estonia.

 

Here in the UK the difference between petrol and diesel is currently 5 pence (€0.06 EUR) per litre.

 

Petrol £1.07 GBP / €1.20 EUR per litre or £4.86 GBP / €5.47 EUR per UK gallon

Diesel £1.12 GBP / €1.26 EUR per litre or £5.10 GBP / €5.74 EUR per UK gallon

 

Your 80,000 km annual mileage equates to 50,000 miles.

 

The official fuel economy of the Kodiaq vRS is 34mpg (miles per gallon)...

 

 

Here it would cost you roughly £7,499 GBP / €8,428 EUR a year in diesel fuel.

 

Assuming an equivalent sized petrol engine drops from 34mpg to 28mpg (the recommended 15-20% reduction) then the increase in your annual fuel cost would increase to £8,678 GBP / €9,747 EUR so a difference of £1,179 GBP / €1,319 EUR, or €110 EUR per month.

 

By the time you've factored in the higher purchase price of a diesel engined vehicle then the €110 EUR will fall significantly.

 

The "cost" argument for choosing diesel over petrol when covering higher mileage no longer stacks up in the UK.

petrol 95 for 1,18

diesel 0,99.

It`s about 20% diffrence in cost per liter only..

But crucially, it's the other way around compared to the UK, petrol is more expensive than diesel for you.

The engine changeover is on build week 36, while all other changes are in build week 30. So if you wanted to get a ‘prime example’ of an RS TDI, got your timing right and you could get an MY21 TDI.

How do you time this?

 

If you order now and they start building end of July so past build week 30. Do they use your order date so no new features or build date to include the new features?

 

If the latter, then do you know what the average time between order date and build date is?

That Sportline interior is not from a Kodiaq, it's a Karoq.

 

One thing I like about my Karoq at night is the LED strip above the glovebox, something the Kodiaq is missing. With the current trend to introduce more LED strips in to the interior of cars ( just look at new Octavia ), it would seem from those pics the Kodiaq hasn't changed? Would seem an odd decision as it makes the car look dated.

 

Perhaps it's true Skoda have left the 2021 Kodiaq interior alone but those 'leaked' pics look more like 'doctored' pics to me - they're just photoshopped with a different steering wheel.  No?

I know. No Kodiaq RS interior picture has been seen yet apart from my own go at a photoshop which I haven't put out in public for obvious reasons.

Kodiaq doesn't have the ambient light on the passenger dash cause of the compartment behind the trim.

I do agree that some angles the pictures look somewhat doctored, however it's a MY21 directive by Skoda to have the new steering wheel in all cars. Superb Sportline for example:
