Not starting properly, then stalls

Featured Replies

Went on w journey, engine lights flashed as though it was having a melt down, spluttering then stalled. Hard to start then stalled, no codes recorded. In tank pump comes on but not all the time ( does the pump run all the time?) or just on start up and then engine pump takes over with vacuum. I used my diagnostics plugin to bleed the fuel system, the pump turned on once and when doing another cycle the pump didn’t turn on, does this mean the pump is crap and I need a new one?

Tell us which engine this car has please, it's a great starting point for fault finding.

I know you can hear the pump when starting/turning the key, initially but I don't think it keeps running so if you switch on-off-on, etc it may only run intermittently, so as not to flood the engine. You may need to turn off and leave it a while, in order for it to re-run the pump. You might even need to lock the car back up.  I have heard mention of some models priming the pump when you first open the drivers door too, I have never noticed that on my version, though.

Are you deffo meaning MK2 Fabia though, as the avatar picture-thingy is not of a MK2. It ay be helpful to list the exact model, so others can help.  Service history, filters changes, etc all help.

LOL, Wino posted seconds prior to me, suggesting similar.

Hi it’s a 1.2 CWFA tdi 2012 full service history, never had any problem like this only the usual egr valve and lambda sensor in the past. No fault codes showing, it does sound like the pump, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts before I buy a new one.

How much use has the car had during lock down? If the answer is "not much" I would be more inclined to blame low state of charge of the battery.

No it’s been in regular use, I will test the battery. The starter doesn’t click and it does start at first but the dies and won’t restart just keeps turning over sort of because of the start stop gismo.
