Aircon fan constantly running

Featured Replies

Hello Guys,

I'm getting nervous because of my air co fan running all the time. It's louder than the TSI engine. Dealer changed faulty air co clutch and after that I have noticed that fan running all the time. I can't remember did the fan was running all the time before repair.

Dealer says that is normal and it should run all the time. How is it in your cars?

Thanks

You mean the one under the bonnet. Radiator fan? No that should not run all the time. It's electric no?

Yes it's radiator fan.

If your AC is on, both fans will run.

@Gedas If your A/C fan is blowing all the time whatever your setting is, it's not normal. Your dealer is fooling you and is lazy. Ask him to correct this.

No its running when I switch on a/c. But it is on full load i think.

It’s normal for the fan to run when the AC is on and stop when you turn the AC off. The condenser, the part in front of the coolant rad is a heat exchanger, so if there’s no air flowing over it it won’t dump the heat it needs to from the coolent, so then the AC core inside the cabin would stay hot and so do you and that’s why the fans run continuously.

This could be normal. What is the ambient air temp and humidity?

Are you in Singapore? ;)

Generally the fan should cut in and out with the compressor. So if it never does anything other than run at 100% and is making a lot of noise doing so, and you don't live in the tropics or Dubai, it doesn't sound normal.

The central A/C dial has sequential lights that will tell you how fast the fans are blowing. If you turn the dial counter-clockwise, the fan speed will lower. If you keep turning it, you will eventually turn the A/C off and the fans will stop. Worth a try, just to see if it's working as expected.

Radiator fans are the ones being discussed.

He may have claimed to have but it would be rather difficult to replace something that does not exist.

Maybe their bullsh1tometer was away for calibration at the time.

Errrr... it does exist, albeit the clutch is on the AC compressor!

Are you sure about that?

Yes.

Are you a service receptionist in a dealership by any chance?

AFAIK VAG vehicles have been fitted with the clutchless variable output Sanden type (+ other suppliers) of aircon compressor where the N280 valve controls the volume of refrigerant being pumped for at least the last 14 years.

Will be happy to learn otherwise.

....now I understand your comment above.

Nevertheless, would you agree it is perfectly normal for the electric fans to operate when the AC is in operation?
