Kodiaq Roof Box

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I picked up my Black Magic Sportline last week and am absolutely in love 😍

One thing I want to do is purchase a roof box to go on top, for the UK holidays we’re

going to be having.

ive seen various recommendations around Thule 775 foot packs, and Thule Wingbar Edge rails... but I haven’t seen any for a large roof box?

Also, I can’t work out if I need the foot pack? Or whether the Wingbar Edge rails would attach directly to the bars themselves?

As always, any help/opinions appreciated.

Thanks!

Michael

My roof box is pretty big...

What Mr Silver said above. Also be aware that Thule have changed their product codes, so the 757 footpack is now known as the 710400.

Also be aware the Thule sell a 775 footpack that will fit your car. The difference between this and the 757 is that the 775 has metal straps that pass under the roof rails rather than just clamping onto the rail, thereby making what I consider to be a safer system for large loads, like a roofbox, or in my case, large canoes. Mr Silver and I have had a discussion about these feet in the past. He believes the 757 pack is adequate for roofboxes and I guess Thule do as well, but for my usage, I much prefer the 775 pack and I cannot understand why they aren't offered as an alternative to the 757 pack.

We bought a Kamei Husky XXL https://www.kamei.de/en/products/transport/roof-boxes/husky/ which is working very well for us. I went for matte black as it spends much of the year living in the shed and I thought matte would hide inadvertent scratches better. There’s space to fit a single bicycle next to it too, which was important for us.

I was surprised what little impact on fuel economy it had. Putting the bike on next to it on the other hand made a massive difference.

We have a Thule Motion XL on our Sportline. I think they have renamed the boxes since we bought ours though. I can recommend these

for everything you might need regarding boxes or bars or boot liners come to that.

I think i'm going to look at the Wingbar Edge and I like the look of that Hapro.

Thank you for your help guys, and that www.roofbox.co.uk looks like the perfect website!!

That looks tidy

If you go on Roofbox site and enter your Reg No, then the bars listed are for that car.  All of them have the dimensions so you can check if your Amazon ones are the same.

Yes, but again it's not particularly easy to work out.   After a while I have concluded that it is the Medium bars that are needed, front and back.

Both Roofbox, Amazon and Halfords confirm that the bars needed for the Kodiaq are Thule part No 9582. On the Thule website these are described as Medium.

See here  https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71-vuu6CdcS.pdf

Beware the part of the Amazon site that lists all the sizes for that part number as each size comes up as the same price which is unlikely.

And here, although I don't know what the two zeros signify on the end of the part number.  https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thule-WingBar-Edge-958200-Rails/dp/B00B9DATTO

Also be aware that some prices you'll see for the 9582 bars does not include the fitting kit specific to your vehicle, that can be why there's a wide disparity between prices. The Roofbox price includes all the bits you'll need for your Kodiaq. That's the beauty of Roofbox, you just enter your vehicle details or reg No and it lists what you need.

Check your cheapo Amazon prices include the fitting kit.

I will be annoyed if you mention later that you wanted the black bars 🙄

lol why?

Just got a set of Thule black aero bars and 775 feet for £80 off Marketplace. Seem to be a good fit. Various people recommend 775, 757 or 7104 - it's a bit confusing.

The 775s that you've bought have a plastic coated metal strap that passes under your rails. The 757s have a clamp system with no strap underneath.

The 775s are better in my opinion, especially if you're carrying something that will cause a lot of wind resistance.

Why they make both is beyond me as they're both for raised roof rails.

Some time back Thule changed their product codes which makes choosing even more confusing, so the 7104s are the equivalent of the 775s.

If you're coming to Thule products from scratch, then you just have to deal with the new codes, but if you've purchased from them before, it is confusing !!

Hope that makes it slightly clearer than mud. 🙄

Thule 1254 (755) work very well. Got mine used for pennies.

Another number - even more confusing.🤫

For what it’s worth the Thule recommenced foot pack for the Kodiaq was the 775 before the instruction of the new Evo raised rail foot pack - which uses a clamp mechanism rather than the strap. If I had the roof rack on permanently I would rather a clamp fitting, as the Wingbar Edge I have on my Passat is around 2yo and most of the rubber on the strap has dried and cracked, with some parts just coming off like crumbs.

The 775 feet with the strap are I agree rather fragile.

Better off with the better engineered 755.

After a lot of deliberation I think I will be removing my bars when not in use, and therefore will be going for the "non edge" version to maximise load width when I do.

I will also be using the roofbox website.

Sensible, you'll have your bases covered then.
