Shame about the engines/gearbox

That is plainly not correct as there are plenty that get a replacement MCU when needed and do not get a new DSG be those wet or dry clutch ones.

Yeah, the control unit is a separate part so it gets replaced. But my point was that refurbishing them in the dealers workshop isn't viable to they swap it instead.

Also it's not only the DQ200 that has issues, people with vRS models also get DSG failures.

  • Sorry to disagree, but you don't need to heel and toe to get more control out of a manual gearbox. There's all sorts of ways in which a manual gearbox is better even without heeling and toeing.

  • Skoda needs to get the Average Co2 g/km low and the WLTP / RDE2 figures where they want them so are going to offer the cars that can get the results under the tests so what they can offer is limited o

I agree with you about the worries of stability around corners and bends.   I have done training through my work with regards to driving at speed and car control etc. Gear control and accele

And clutch packs get replaced. Even within 3 years.  There are dealerships with all the gear, techs with training.  Maybe just not enough with experience of DSG,s.   You do not want to be the one with your car getting someone's first try at a fix of.   Refurbishing has never been a main dealership thing where many are Fitters.    Hence the best trained go set up as an Independent or go work for one.

Agreed.
I had an Astra which started to get a slight whine in the 6sp manual box a few k from new. Just replaced with a new one under warranty at the dealers. Not everything works perfectly all the time from brand new.

I don’t know how you could possibly think an unseen part of your car has a design flaw when yours breaks. It’s just broken, that’s all.

I may of over generalised regarding design flaw. It just seemed to me that I noticed a few issues with the DSG on forum posts, but not so much with a manual like mine. These things do happen,  but the car has been in twice now in as many weeks,  the first issue being the much discussed software update.

Hi All,

New to the forum and Skoda.

I have an Octavia 1.5 TSI (New edition, 2020). I’ve had the car for nearly a month and seem to have problems changing gear without crunching, especially from 3rd to 4th. I put this down to the fact there’s only 3000 miles on the clock and maybe the gearbox is running in. The strange thing though is that when I bought this car I test drove another Octavia 1.5 TSI and experienced similar issues. Seems better when the car is warmed up.

I bought the car on the basis that I thought it was just me.

I would appreciate peoples views.

 Thanks, Chris.

Hi Chris,

Did this get resolved? Fixed?

Thanks

Joe

Dual clutch transmissions are getting into other makes now. They`re lighter and cheaper than classic hydro trans. Oh yes, also a lot worse to drive but VAG won`t care if it lines up the EBIT.

New cars are getting worse and worse with every new invention by the lawyers in Brussels, also more expensive. Ridiculous start-stop, ****lane assist, CO2 averaging across model range (that`s the most stupid idea ever) etc. From 2025 new cars are expected to have active speed limiters. End result of all this ode of eudiotism will be lots of people driving old cars with that electronic crap switched off by a diagnostics guy.

Next time I`ll just buy a ****in Mercedes SL320 from the early 90`s and won`t care to ever replace it.

Right I'll say it right up front, unpalatable as it is to some - I don't want a DSG. There it is, done it, said it.

Following on - Skoda really don't appear to want my money.

First the Octavia III 190PS 2.0 TSI SEL - sounded like a great idea, but hold on, DSG only.

Ocavia IV, well I still don't trust Skippy the 1.5TSI so perhaps its back to diesel, 2 litre, ah but hold again, 150 PS is reserved for DSG - you want manual -116 PS is good enough for you then.

There is the possibility of being able to stretch to a vRS next time (Having said that I don't see the wheel/tyre combo it will come with coping with the roads in my area)  but will vRS buyers be allowed a manual option?

Looking up the Skoda range further - Superb, wall to wall DSGs

Don't get me wrong I'm happy for DSG fans but I'm beginning to hate those 3 letters - every nice looking car I see, start reading the spec, still looking good, but sooner or latter there it is  -DSG.

Come on Skoda, how about some decent options for folk that still want a manual gearbox?

They need to get the Low C02 emissions during the WLTP / RDE2 and Euro 7 emissions are coming so it is Electrification you are getting and 2 pedal cars.

There will soon be no manual boxes as a choice because VW / Skoda / Seat / Audi / Porsche are not selling enough BEV, so the need to get PHEV,s and MHEV,s sold in bigger numbers.
